Job Description
Title: Service Technician

Key Accountabilities:
  • Service, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul engines, propulsion systems and their electronic systems adhering to all safety guidelines and in accordance with RRS Code of Conduct
  • Provide on-site work, maintain active list of project timelines and prioritize job tasks
  • Request parts and tools to perform job functions
  • Source local vendors required for field service in cooperation with purchasing
  • Inspect parts to assure conformance to specification
  • Perform field inspections of failed parts and write reports to avoid future incidents
  • Maintain engine, vessel and equipment log books
  • Maintain detailed records of daily activities
  • Prepare work estimates
  • Commission and operate engines and propulsion systems
  • Instrument propulsion systems and record test data
  • Work with product groups on product design development
  • Write and provide input for updates of service manuals and bulletins
  • Instruct customers in safe engine operation, shutdown procedures and troubleshooting
  • Mentor and provide technical assistance to other service personnel
  • Analyze technical data and remain technically current.
  • Always maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Promote a safety and compliance culture in area of responsibility, and live the letter and spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct
  • Perform special projects

Basic Requirements:
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time
  • Two years mechanical trade school or Associate's Degree in Engineering Science or Mechanical Technology and 3 years field service, mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience; or 7 years field service, mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to travel 70-100% on short notice domestic and international
  • Ability to lift, push, pull weights in the 20-60 lb range

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong experience in the testing of diesel engine components
  • Strong skills in the operation and troubleshooting of engines, instrumentation and electronic engine controls
  • Strong skills in the use of mechanical and electrical hand tools
  • Strong skills in the use of measurement and testing tools for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engine operations
  • Strong knowledge in technical language and engineering terminology
  • Strong knowledge in the practical principles of electronics, physics, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Strong proven ability to operate machine shop equipment used for fabricating test parts and equipment
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good factory representation, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational, planning and follow up skills
  • Good analytical and creative problem-solving skills when problems are very complex
  • Good knowledge in the physical properties of fuels, coolants, lubricants and oils
  • Ability to bend down, stand over, lay down and complete work tasks within the tight confines typical of marine engine compartments and/or engine rooms for long periods of time
  • Proficient in the use of a PC and MS Office Suite
  • Experience with MTU engines and electronics
  • Proficiency in utilizing precision measurement tools, including dial gauges, bore gauges, and micrometers, to ensure exceptional accuracy
  • CAD software proficiency
  • Experience in operating fork lift trucks
  • Experience in rigging of weights up to 1 ton
