Job description

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Senior Manager, Development owns and grows a portfolio of foundation and philanthropic funders and prospects. The Senior Manager carries each relationship across the full funding lifecycle -- from identification and cultivation through solicitation, award, reporting, renewal, and growth -- and is accountable for delivering portfolio goals. The Senior Manager will deepen existing relationships and bring new funders to the organization. The role combines relationship management, business development, proposal leadership, and cross-functional coordination, working closely with program, finance, communications, and legal colleagues to translate RTSL's priorities into compelling funding opportunities.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Portfolio management

  • Own a portfolio of foundation and philanthropic funders and prospects, carrying each relationship from identification and qualification through cultivation, solicitation, award and renewal.
  • Develop and execute annual engagement plans for significant relationships and prospects in the portfolio, with clear objectives for cultivation, solicitation, renewal, and growth.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for assigned funders and prospects, building trusted relationships with program officers and other decision-makers at funding organizations.
  • Research and qualify new funding prospects that fit RTSL's priorities and move them into the pipeline.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and pipeline progress against annual revenue and relationship goals, adjusting engagement approaches as needed.

Proposals, reporting and compliance

  • Lead complex proposal and concept note development from opportunity assessment through submission, establishing timelines, coordinating cross-functional inputs, and ensuring a compelling and coherent final product.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to shape value propositions that position RTSL's priorities for funding.
  • Ensure high-quality, timely reporting and full compliance with grant terms across the portfolio.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and execution of grant agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, and other partnership documentation in collaboration with legal and other relevant internal teams.

Representation and external engagement

  • Represent RTSL with funders and at key events and conferences, communicating the organization's mission, strategy and results.
  • Coordinate donor field visits, joint communications and public acknowledgments with the Communications team.

Processes, tools and platforms

  • Maintain disciplined use of the pipeline tracker and Monday.com so that pipeline progress and follow-up stay accurate and visible.
  • Follow RTSL's development standard operating procedures and help keep the team's processes, tools and platforms up to date.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, international development, nonprofit management, communications, business); advanced degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in fundraising, development, or resource mobilization, with a demonstrated track record of contributing substantially to the cultivation and securing of significant philanthropic awards, including six and seven figure funding.
  • Direct experience managing foundation and philanthropic relationships end to end, including proposal development, reporting and renewal.
  • Experience in global health, international development, or a comparable mission-driven organization.

Skills & abilities:

  • Strong relationship manager, able to build trust with funders and hold a portfolio independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to turn technical program content into a compelling case for support.
  • Structured, organized, and persistent, with strong project management skills and the ability to take complex efforts across the finish line.
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills, with the ability to mobilize colleagues across functions and levels around funding opportunities, deadlines, and donor commitments.
  • Collaborative and flexible team player who contributes to a harmonious and productive work environment.
  • Comfortable and able to operate well in a fast-paced, remote, mission-driven environment.
  • Passionate about global health.
