Job Description

The Business Operations Internship at Expeditors San Diego (SAN) offers a handson, analyticsdriven experience focused on process improvement, AI innovation, automation, and operational efficiency within a global logistics environment.

This role is designed for a student who is excited about using data, technology, and AI tools to improve how a business operates. The intern will work closely with Business Operations leadership and crossfunctional teams to analyze current processes, identify inefficiencies, and support solutions that improve visibility, accuracy, and productivity across the branch.

The intern will be exposed to real operational data, live workflows, and active improvement initiatives, with opportunities to contribute to projects involving:

  • Data analytics and reporting
  • AIenabled tools and automation
  • Process standardization and documentation
  • Efficiency and performance improvement initiatives

This is a paid, parttime internship, typically 3-4 months in duration.

  • Hours: 20 hours per week
  • Location: Onsite at the Expeditors San Diego (SAN) branch

Key Responsibilities

  • Support process improvement initiatives by analyzing workflows, identifying gaps, and recommending efficiency improvements
  • Assist with data analytics and reporting, including:
    • Cleaning, organizing, and analyzing operational data
    • Supporting dashboards, scorecards, and performance metrics
  • Participate in AI and automation initiatives, such as:
    • Identifying repetitive or manual tasks suitable for automation
    • Supporting AIenabled tools (e.g., reporting automation, workflow optimization, data analysis support)
  • Help document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process changes
  • Analyze trends and performance data to support leadership decisionmaking
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams across the branch to support operational initiatives
  • Provide analytical, documentation, and administrative support as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Available for 3-4 months
  • Must be able to work onsite in San Diego, CA
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate's or Bachelor's degree
    (Business, Operations, Analytics, Data Science, Supply Chain, Information Systems, or related field preferred)
  • Strong interest in data analytics, AI, automation, and process improvement
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (data analysis, formulas, pivot tables)
  • Familiarity with data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Co-Pilot, etc) is a plus
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized in a fastpaced environment
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn new technologies
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
