Generation Development - Project Manager - Implementation

This is a Project Management Position (E7) and will be primarily located at APC Headquarters in Birmingham, AL or GPC Headquarters in Atlanta, GA and will require moderate overnight travel; relocation will be considered

POSITION SUMMARY

Generation Development is primarily responsible for supporting Southern Companyโ€™s retail operating companies with the siting, development, deployment and acquisition of power generation and energy storage resources. This position will lead cross functional project team(s) primarily associated with the implementation of new solar and battery energy storage resources from post-contract award through commercial operation and integration into Southern Companyโ€™s retail operating fleet.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead role in project management of Solar and BESS projects

  • Coordinating cross-functional teams including but not limited to construction, engineering design, environmental permitting, accounting, compliance, legal, plant operations, project controls, safety, and transmission

  • Development and implementation of appropriate solutions addressing project challenges through identification and response to all circumstances that affect the revenue requirements of the project

    • These affects include changes to the project's performance, cost or schedule encompassing the timeframe from project award through some defined period post commercial operation
  • Lead role in ensuring project governance

  • Preparation and presentation of project status and results to all levels of enterprise-wide management and peer groups

  • Overall responsibility for safety, schedule, budget, change management, contract compliance, and overall project success.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Masterโ€™s degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics, economics or finance required

  • Advanced degree is desirable; MBA preferred

Experience:

  • Prior management experience and demonstrated success leading a cross-company, multi-function enterprise team through a large, complex project

  • In-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and operation of power generation technologies highly desired

  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex topics verbally and in written form

    • Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office applications is required
    • Exhibited high proficiency in the development and delivery of information using PowerPoint and other visual messaging software
    • Experience with fundamental production cost models such as Aurora is preferred

  • Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among stakeholders, appropriately balance competing functional drivers and effectively communicate complex topics

  • Demonstrated project management capabilities with proven ability to prioritize multiple projects and/or issues with conflicting deadlines and/or business unit drivers

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills presenting complex information to management
