Job description

We are seeking an experienced Tools Software Engineer to support enterprise monitoring and management solutions for a national security customer. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys designing, integrating, and optimizing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) monitoring tools while supporting highly secure, mission-critical environments.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with enterprise monitoring platforms, automation, scripting, and systems engineering, along with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Position Overview

As a Tools Software Engineer, you will support the deployment, integration, and sustainment of enterprise monitoring and management tools that provide visibility into system health, application performance, network operations, and infrastructure availability. You will help extend monitoring capabilities into private cloud environments, automate operational processes, and ensure enterprise monitoring solutions remain secure, reliable, and highly available.

Location: Annapolis Junction, MD

Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite

Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise monitoring and management solutions supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) monitoring products into secure enterprise environments.
  • Configure and support enterprise monitoring for servers, applications, operating systems, networks, and endpoint devices.
  • Extend monitoring capabilities into private cloud environments through automation and infrastructure integration.
  • Develop scripts and automation solutions to collect, manipulate, analyze, and visualize operational metrics.
  • Support monitoring data ingestion, reporting, dashboard creation, and performance analytics.
  • Test and deploy software patches, hotfixes, upgrades, and new releases for enterprise monitoring platforms.
  • Validate functionality of custom applications following software updates and platform upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, work instructions, and knowledge articles.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure engineers, system administrators, cybersecurity teams, and customers to improve enterprise monitoring capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, infrastructure, and monitoring issues while recommending long-term improvements.
  • Ensure enterprise monitoring solutions operate securely using PKI authentication, authorization services, SSL/TLS communications, and enterprise security controls.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 20 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma/GED with at least 25 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience with enterprise monitoring, event management, and system/application health monitoring.
  • Experience integrating OpenText Enterprise Management tools.
  • Experience programming with Python, R, JavaScript, Perl, or UNIX scripting languages.
  • Strong Linux/UNIX command-line experience.
  • Experience administering Windows Server operating systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Excellent communication, organization, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent).
