Job description

As passionate about our people as we are about our mission.
Why Join Q2?
Q2 is a leading provider of digital banking and lending solutions to banks, credit unions, alternative finance companies, and fintechs in the U.S. and internationally. Our mission is simple: build strong and diverse communities through innovative financial technology-and we do that by empowering our people to help create success for our customers.
What Makes Q2 Special?
Being as passionate about our people as we are about our mission. We celebrate our employees in many ways, including our "Circle of Awesomeness" award ceremony and day of employee celebration among others! We invest in the growth and development of our team members through ongoing learning opportunities, mentorship programs, internal mobility, and meaningful leadership relationships. We also know that nothing builds trust and collaboration like having fun. We hold an annual Dodgeball for Charity event at our Q2 Stadium in Austin, inviting other local companies to play, and community organizations we support to raise money and awareness together.
The Team
The Targeted Experiences team builds and evolves SMART, Q2's personalization and targeting platform for digital banking.
SMART turns real-time behavioral, transactional, and partner data into actionable insights that can be activated across digital banking experiences and external systems. In addition to building the platform itself, the team owns partner enablement - ensuring SMART is reliable, well-documented, and ready for consumption by external developers, fintech partners, and marketing platforms.
The team is intentionally multi-disciplinary and owns the stack end to end, bringing together engineers with backgrounds in backend and frontend software engineering, data engineering, and data science. As SMART evolves, the team's scope will continue to expand beyond a single product toward broader targeted and personalized experience capabilities across Q2's ecosystem.
The Role
Q2 is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Targeted Experiences team and help build the platform capabilities behind SMART.
In this role, you will work both independently and collaboratively to design, implement, and operate cloud-native, data-driven services that power personalization and targeted experiences across Q2's platform and partner ecosystem. This is a production-first engineering role: the systems you build will run in live environments, handle real customer data, and be consumed by both internal teams and external developers.
We are looking for engineers who enjoy working across the stack, care deeply about correctness and reliability, and are comfortable operating in a fast-moving platform environment where quality matters.
A Typical Day
  • Design, implement, integrate, and test backend and/or full-stack services of moderate complexity, including APIs, data pipelines, and platform components.
  • Work individually and collaboratively to deliver features and improvements in live production systems.
  • Create and automate detailed test cases during development.
  • Build and evolve services that integrate with internal Q2 systems, external partners, and third-party platforms.
  • Contribute to the operability of the platform, including monitoring, alerting, debugging, and incident resolution.
  • Support, maintain, and improve existing services, with occasional on-call participation.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to security, privacy, availability, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions, contributing to shared standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, data engineers, and data scientists to deliver cohesive platform capabilities.
Bring Your Passion. Here's What We're Looking For.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 2+ years of professional software engineering experience for Intermediate level
  • Experience building backend services; full-stack experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and single page applications
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages
  • Experience working in a cloud-based environment (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with service-oriented or distributed architectures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively in a team setting.
  • Experience contributing in an Agile or iterative development environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, implement, integrate, and test software solutions of moderate complexity.
• Deliver solutions in live production systems individually and collaboratively.
• Support and maintain custom features, with occasional on-call availability.
• Ensure adherence to security, availability, confidentiality, and privacy policies.
• Assist and mentor teammates, providing technical guidance and best practices.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; 2+ years of relevant experience (or advanced degree without experience).
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; web development experience.
• Knowledge of full software development life cycle and service-oriented architecture.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience contributing in an Agile development environment.
• Occasional availability for on-call/emergency support; ability to work flexible
