Job description

Summary

Forest Park Forever is seeking a Nature Reserve Intern for a summer position in applied land and restoration management. The position is located within the Forest Park Nature Reserve, 194 acres of old growth forest, reconstructed savannah, prairie, wetland, and waterway habitat in St. Louis City.

Description

The internship provides instruction and hands-on experience in ecological restoration and applied management. Working directly with the Nature Reserve Stewards and Nature Reserve Technicians, interns will assist the restoration and management of urban natural ecosystems. Daily natural resource activities will include native species identification, exotic species control, seed collecting, promoting new vegetative material, trail maintenance, and flora surveys along with other duties. The Intern will develop a working knowledge of Missouri flora. The Intern will also gain experience in the creation and maintenance of high-quality natural communities in an urban setting using a variety of equipment ranging from hand tools to power tools. Additional activities such as working with volunteer groups and special events in the park will place an emphasis on effective teamwork and supervision.
