What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern technologist in cytogenetics?

To thrive as an Intern Technologist in Cytogenetics, you need a solid background in biological sciences, laboratory techniques, and cytogenetic theory, often supported by a relevant degree or enrollment in a medical laboratory technologist program. Familiarity with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), karyotyping, microscopy, and laboratory information systems is typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for accurate analysis and teamwork. These competencies ensure reliable genetic testing, precise diagnostics, and high-quality laboratory operations.

What is an intern technologist in cytogenetics?

Intern Technologists in Cytogenetics are students or recent graduates gaining hands-on experience in the laboratory techniques used to study chromosomes and genetic material. They assist certified cytogenetic technologists with tasks such as preparing samples, performing staining, and analyzing microscopic images to detect genetic abnormalities. These internships provide essential training for those pursuing a career in cytogenetics or related medical laboratory fields. Interns learn to follow laboratory protocols, maintain accurate records, and work as part of a clinical team.

What does an intern technologist in cytogenetics do?

As an Intern Technologist in Cytogenetics, you can expect to be involved in a range of laboratory activities, including preparing and processing specimens, assisting with karyotyping, and performing fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays under supervision. You may also help maintain laboratory equipment, document findings, and support data entry tasks. Collaboration with technologists, supervisors, and genetic counselors is common, providing valuable exposure to both technical and interpretive aspects of cytogenetic analysis. This hands-on experience is designed to build your technical proficiency and understanding of quality control procedures within a clinical genetics lab.

About Victory Tool

Victory Tool is a modern, growing Tool & Die shop specializing in high-precision metal stamping solutions. We invest in technology, people, and processes to stay ahead, and we're building a team that takes pride in craftsmanship, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What Sets Us Apart

We are NOT a production shop.

Every design project is different. You won't be pushing out repeat jobs—you'll be solving new challenges, engineering creative solutions, and helping develop tools that require real thought and skill.

  • Diverse, interesting design projects
  • High-mix, manufacturing serving a wide range of industries
  • Strong engineering and toolroom collaboration
  • Modern equipment and technology
  • Young, energetic, team-oriented environment
  • Hands-on learning from experienced designers and toolmakers
  • Flexibility and opportunities for career growth
  • Outstanding benefits and competitive compensation

If you enjoy solving mechanical problems and want to build a career in engineering and manufacturing, this is the place.

Position Overview

Victory Tool is looking for a motivated Tool Designer Intern who wants to develop a career in tool and die design. You'll work alongside experienced designers and toolmakers, assisting with the design of metal stamping dies while learning the engineering principles behind metal stamping dies.

This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates in engineering technology, mechanical design, CAD, or related manufacturing programs.

What You'll Do
  • Train in designing metal stamping dies using CAD software
  • Create and update detailed manufacturing drawings and assemblies
  • Support senior designers with tooling concepts, revisions, and documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and engineering meetings
  • Work closely with toolmakers to understand how designs are manufactured and assembled
  • Learn metal stamping processes, die construction, and best design practices
  • Assist with troubleshooting and implementing design improvements
  • Help maintain engineering documentation and project records
What We're Looking For
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in how things work
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred, but other 3D CAD experience is welcome)
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree or technical program in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • Manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or toolroom experience is a plus, but not required
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn from experienced designers and toolmakers
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Positive attitude, curiosity, and a desire to build a long-term career in manufacturing
Why Join Victory Tool?

Victory Tool isn't a repetitive production environment. Every project brings a new challenge and an opportunity to learn something new. You'll gain hands-on experience working with experienced engineers and toolmakers while contributing to real customer projects from concept through completion.

We offer a young, energetic team culture with flexibility, mentorship, competitive pay, and outstanding benefits. If you're looking for an internship where you'll develop valuable engineering and manufacturing skills—not just observe from the sidelines—Victory Tool is the place to start your career.
