What does an intern stylist do?

An Intern Stylist supports senior stylists and the styling team by assisting with wardrobe selection, preparing outfits, organizing clothing and accessories, and helping on set during photo shoots or fashion shows. Their responsibilities often include steaming clothes, returning garments to showrooms, and maintaining a tidy work environment. Intern Stylists gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry and learn about current trends, styling techniques, and professional networking.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern stylist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern Stylist, you need a solid understanding of fashion trends, garment types, and visual presentation, often supported by coursework or experience in fashion or design. Familiarity with styling software, digital mood boards, and basic photo editing tools is commonly expected. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail help you collaborate effectively and bring fresh ideas to styling projects. These skills are crucial for creating compelling looks, meeting client needs, and succeeding in the fast-paced fashion industry.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an intern stylist, and how will I collaborate with senior team members?

As an Intern Stylist, you'll typically assist with organizing wardrobe pieces, preparing looks for photo shoots, and helping with fittings or on-set styling tasks. You'll often work closely with senior stylists and creative directors, supporting them by sourcing garments, maintaining inventory, and ensuring outfits are photo-ready. This hands-on experience provides valuable opportunities to observe and contribute to creative decision-making, while building strong teamwork and communication skills essential for career growth in the fashion industry.
