The HVAC Lab Quality and Regulatory Test Engineer provides technical leadership for laboratory quality systems and regulatory compliance across Commercial HVAC Laboratories. This role is responsible for supporting the development, testing, certification, and release of HVAC products that meet UL and other applicable agency standards, codes, and regulatory requirements. In addition, the role ensures laboratory operations, test methods, documentation, and quality processes are aligned with ISO 17025 and established quality engineering principles. The position requires strong expertise in compliance engineering, laboratory quality systems, and continuous improvement, along with a working knowledge of emerging regulatory expectations and industry best practices. The successful candidate will be well connected within the external professional compliance community and recognized as a technical resource for quality and regulatory matters.
What you will do:
  • Develop, maintain, and improve laboratory quality processes and procedures.
  • Support the laboratory Quality Management System and accreditation requirements.
  • Investigate nonconformances, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
  • Partner with product development teams on UL test plans and test data analysis.
  • Prepare and submit UL compliance test reports and certification documentation.
  • Build relationships with regulatory agencies and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).
  • Coordinate agency requirements, test schedules, and certification activities with project teams.
  • Perform risk assessments and support FMEA activities.
  • Stay current on UL, ISO 17025, and other applicable compliance standards.
  • Create and maintain test procedures and ensure test readiness.
  • Coordinate internal and external agency and quality audits.
  • Maintain quality records and controlled documents supporting lab accreditation.
  • Provide technical training to lab personnel on test procedures and compliance practices.

What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineer, Quality Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other engineering discipline and at least 2 years of Laboratory quality or product development work experience is required.

Key Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of Trane Commercial Chillers, Rooftops and Air Handler products.
  • Knowledge of appropriate product safety and design standards is required including but not limited to UL/CSA 1995, UL508, UL508A, UL 60335-2-40, National Electric Code, ANSI Z21.47, ASHRAE 90.1, CE, ISO 17025, etc.
  • Past experience with product development and demonstrated successful certification of a product.
  • Strong cross-functional analytical and technical skills to interpret and guide design and test requirements based on UL standards.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
