Job description

Intern – Capital Project Services Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (hours may vary)

Curious, organized students who want real-world experience supporting major infrastructure and community projects.

What You'll Do As a Capital Project Services Intern with City Utilities Engineering, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting projects that help build and maintain Fort Wayne's essential infrastructure. This internship provides exposure to project coordination, grant research, real estate processes, and administrative support that help move major capital projects forward.

Key Responsibilities • Assist with property acquisition tasks including preparing documents, researching property information, and supporting easement and real estate processes • Support grant research and assist with preparing and submitting applications for project funding opportunities • Maintain project files and documentation including scanning, organizing, archiving, and retrieving digital and physical records • Enter and maintain project data in spreadsheets and project management systems while helping track funding and compliance requirements • Assist with scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, preparing correspondence, and taking meeting minutes to support project coordination

What You Bring – Education & Experience • Currently pursuing a degree in public administration, business administration, engineering, organizational leadership, economics, urban planning, or a related field • Minimum of two years of college coursework completed • Interest in infrastructure projects, public administration, engineering, planning, or utilities operations • Experience or coursework related to real estate processes, easements, or title research is a plus • Experience researching or assisting with grant applications is a plus

Preferred Certifications • Valid Indiana Driver's License if operating a City vehicle

Technical Skills & Knowledge • Strong organizational and document management skills • Ability to read and interpret technical, financial, and legal documents • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, community stakeholders, and City staff • Experience with spreadsheets, document management systems, and standard office software
