Job description

Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) Engineer I / II / III – New Nuclear (Contract)

Location: Richland, WA (Onsite)

Schedule: 4x10 (Mon–Thurs)

Duration: 12 months

Openings: 1 (level determined based on experience)

Pay:

  • Level I: $45.00–$52.00/hr
  • Level II: $50.00–$61.80/hr
  • Level III: $58.00–$68.00/hr

Overview

A leading nuclear energy organization is seeking a Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) Engineer to support new nuclear development initiatives.

This role supports advanced reactor design, licensing, and construction activities. You will work on complex probabilistic risk assessments, design reviews, and regulatory compliance efforts tied to next-generation nuclear technologies.

Only 1 hire will be made. Level (I, II, or III) will be determined based on experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform probabilistic safety and risk assessments (PRA/PSA)
  • Support advanced reactor design and development efforts
  • Participate in design reviews and construction oversight
  • Assist with licensing and construction permit activities
  • Interpret and apply NRC regulations, NEI guidance, and EPRI standards
  • Develop and review risk models, hazard analyses, and event sequences
  • Provide input on project schedules and engineering deliverables
  • Identify design or operational risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Support Owner’s Engineer activities and design/build projects


Level Breakdown

Level I – Entry / Early Career

Pay: $45.00–$52.00/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 1+ year of engineering experience

What they’re doing:

  • Supporting PSA/PRA analysis under guidance
  • Assisting with model development and data analysis
  • Learning regulatory frameworks (NRC, NEI, EPRI)
  • Contributing to design reviews and documentation

Profile:

  • Strong fundamentals in engineering and analysis
  • Exposure to nuclear, energy, or heavy industrial environments
  • Coachable and able to learn complex systems quickly


Level II – Mid-Level Engineer

Pay: $50.00–$61.80/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience

What they’re doing:

  • Independently performing PSA/PRA analyses
  • Supporting licensing and regulatory activities
  • Contributing to construction and design oversight
  • Interpreting standards and applying them to real-world systems

Profile:

  • Hands-on PRA or risk analysis experience
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of engineering codes and standards


Level III – Senior / Lead Engineer

Pay: $58.00–$68.00/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering + 7+ years experience
  • OR
  • PE license + 8+ years experience

What they’re doing:

  • Leading complex PSA/PRA efforts
  • Providing technical direction and mentorship
  • Advising on advanced reactor design and regulatory strategy
  • Developing new processes, procedures, and methodologies
  • Solving highly complex, non-standard engineering problems

Profile:

  • Deep expertise in PRA/PSA methodologies
  • Experience with advanced reactor technologies or large nuclear projects
  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability

Required / Desired Skills (All Levels)

  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) / Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA)
  • Knowledge of ASME/ANS PRA standards (RA-S-1.4)
  • Event sequence analysis, initiating events, uncertainty analysis
  • Understanding of transient and accident analysis
  • Familiarity with:
  • NRC regulations
  • NEI guidance (including NEI 18-04)
  • EPRI standards
  • Experience with:
  • Seismic PRA
  • Fire PRA
  • Ability to interpret PSA models and results

Work Environment

  • Onsite in Richland, WA
  • 4-day work week (10-hour days)
  • No per diem
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • No on-call requirement
