Job description

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Engineer II – iSeries is to ensure the availability, reliability, integrity, and efficient operation of IBM iSeries and Power Systems.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and resolve escalated complex service requests and incidents assigned to the team through the Help Desk Ticketing System.
  • Interact with vendors on support agreements (scope development), ticket management and issue escalations.
  • Provide technical and strategic support for iSeries / Power Systems for the server systems residing on physical hardware, operating systems and virtualized environments.
  • Install, configure and implement and document iSeries / Power System File systems shares and permissions as requested by a project and/or service request.
  • Perform root cause analysis of utilization and performance of iSeries / Power Systems resources.
  • Install and configure IBM Operating systems.
  • Monitor server performance and error logs using various administrative management tools to identify and address issues and assuring continuity of series.
  • Perform server software and hardware upgrades, patches (PTFs- Program Temporary Fix’s) and repairs.
  • Monitor system logs, system utilization, and batch processes for optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain system backup procedures and recovery.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS or similar technical program or acceptable industry and work experience.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., IBM System Administration 7.1+) preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Nevada Gaming Control Board Registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • 3 years experience iSeries / Power Systems Administration including OS V7R1+ Management.
  • 3 years of significant experience managing iSeries / Power Systems infrastructure including HMC, VIOS, Virtualization & External or Internal Storage (LPAR) and Patch Management (PTFs).
  • 3 years experience High Availability applications including iTera; configuration & administration.
  • 3 years of experience with iSeries / Power Systems access, utility, security & auditing applications including IBM Client Access, Director, Navigator, BRMS, iSecurity, Help Systems, absMessage or related applications.
  • Demonstrated high experience in:
    • Systems Security management.
    • Backup planning, installation and administration.
    • Replication & disaster recovery administration.
    • Virtual & physical role-swaps, fail-overs.
    • Alerting and monitoring administration.
    • System Monitoring system logs, alerting, security events, system health.
    • CL for automation.
    • System tuning, fault finding.
    • Remote monitoring systems.
    • Networking fundamentals including the OSI model, TCP/IP and IPv4.
    • Data Center hands-on installation and configuration of new equipment.
    • Analytical skills and ability to solve complex technical problems with little or no assistance.
    • Leadership and mentorship skills in both technical acumen and work habits that can be afforded to colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Change management and best practice procedures.
    • Business continuity planning and execution.
    • Network designs, components and devices.
    • Design, implementation, and support of a proprietary application architecture.
    • Capacity assessment (servers and network) and planning.
    • Networking in distributed enterprise computing environment concepts.
    • Documentation knowledge (background in technical publications, general documentation).
    • Release management (e.g. Turnover, Implementer).
  • Must be service oriented within a team environment, flexibly adapting to changes and adjusting priorities quickly without frequent oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
