This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. This role is for a mid-career engineer within the vehicle Electrical Power Subsystem team responsible for compute, network, and input/output functions of a lunar spacecraft. This position will include both subsystem design and hands-on work with the hardware in development and flight labs, as well as support for integration and test of the hardware on the flight vehicle.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Technical authorityfor physical and functional components of electrical power subsystem hardware at the assembly level. Potential hardware includes solar arrays, batteries, and power distribution and regulation equipment.
  • Requirements development and managementfor avionics subsystems, including traceability and verification planning using industry-standard tools and processes
  • Development and executionof development, verification, and validation work in laboratory and production environments
  • Integration of interfaceswith other vehicle subsystems, such as GNC, command and data handling, propulsion, and mechanical systems
  • Coordination with internal and external component developers on interface definitions, deliverables, and schedule alignment
  • Support for long-lead hardware identificationand procurement planning to meet desired launch targets
  • Risk analyses supportincluding failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Utilize good engineering and business judgmentto ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS Degree in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experiencein relevant areas of engineering operations
  • Experience with analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, troubleshooting, signal integrity, power, and grounding and general board layout principles
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Experience with design and test of major electrical power system components, such as photovoltaics, batteries, and power distribution design.
  • Familiarity with amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, power supplies, and analog circuits
  • Avionics hardware component design and assembly experience
  • Avionics hardware and software integration experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhDin the subject disciplines
  • 8+ years of industry technical experienceinvolving system formulation, research and development, and/or operations applied to spacecraft systems and environments
  • Experience with human-rated spacecraft systemsand safety-critical design processes for crewed mission
  • Strong team leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience designing high reliability safety-critical, Class 2/3 board assemblies; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards
  • Requirements management experienceincluding familiarity with requirements management tools and aerospace standards
  • Scripting, Programming and Analysis: TCL, Python, Linux shell and Windows batch scripting; C / C++; MATLAB / Simulink, HSPICE and HFSS (or similar modeling/analysis tools)
  • Spacecraft avionics hardware environmental test experienceincluding radiation, vibration, and thermal testing
  • Hands-on test experience with power or other avionics equipment, such as fault detection, isolation, and recovery testing or power quality testing.
  • Cross-organizational coordination experienceworking with multiple engineering teams and external organizations
  • Ability to execute in a dynamic, fast-paced, and driven work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
