Job description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Op, Circulating, Post-Op & Clinic

Location: Executive Plastic Surgery & Landmark Surgery Center
Location: Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

Position Summary

Executive Plastic Surgery and Landmark Surgery Center are seeking compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our growing team. We have opportunities available for both full-time and part-time positions.

This unique position offers the opportunity to work with a busy plastic surgery practice and a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center featuring three fully equipped operating rooms. The RN will provide comprehensive patient care throughout the surgical journey, including pre-operative, intra-operative (circulating), post-operative, and clinic-based nursing care.

Nurses work closely with board-certified surgeons, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience. Shifts are assigned based on surgical schedules, with one nurse dedicated per surgeon, and hours may range from 6 hours and up per shift depending on the daily schedule and case volume.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Nursing Care

  • Assess, prepare, and educate patients prior to surgery.
  • Review medical histories and ensure all required documentation is complete.
  • Verify informed consents and surgical paperwork.
  • Obtain and document vital signs.
  • Start IVs and administer medications as ordered.
  • Answer patient questions and address concerns regarding procedures.
  • Ensure patients are medically and emotionally prepared for surgery.

Intra-Operative Nursing Care (Circulating Nurse)

  • Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, sterile, and efficient operating room environment.
  • Coordinate patient care with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical technologists.
  • Monitor patient status and advocate for patient safety throughout procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and accreditation standards.
  • Accurately document intraoperative care and events.
  • Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures.

Post-Operative Nursing Care

  • Monitor patients during recovery and assess post-anesthesia status.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and patient assessments.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
  • Identify and respond to complications or emergencies.
  • Provide discharge instructions and post-operative education.
  • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria prior to release.
  • Communicate post-operative concerns to physicians and providers as needed.

Plastic Surgery Clinic Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with patient intake, assessments, and examinations.
  • Obtain clinical photographs and measurements.
  • Reconcile medications and review medical histories.
  • Assist with processing laboratory specimens and documenting results.
  • Triage patient phone calls and communicate concerns to providers.
  • Coordinate patient care and follow-up appointments.
  • Assist with disability paperwork, FMLA forms, work notes, prior authorizations, and other clinical documentation.
  • Educate patients regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, medications, and post-operative care.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Administer and document prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Change dressings and perform wound assessments.
  • Monitor and report adverse reactions or complications.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation compliance.
  • Function as a clinical resource and team member within both the practice and surgery center.
  • Maintain all required competencies, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management, supply ordering, and clinical organization.
  • Support patient satisfaction initiatives and quality outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Social Media & Patient Education (As Needed)

  • Participate in educational videos, patient testimonials, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with educational content creation for patient engagement and awareness.
  • Capture and upload approved clinical content in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Qualifications Required

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Professional appearance and commitment to exceptional customer service.

Preferred

  • Experience in ambulatory surgery, operating room, PACU, pre-op, post-op, perioperative nursing, or plastic surgery.
  • Experience in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, general surgery, or other outpatient surgical specialties.
