Job description

Leidos, a leading defense, intelligence, and technology company, is seeking motivated and aspiring technology students for ourSummer 2027 Internship Program (Starts May 2027). As aNetwork Operations Intern, you will join ourDigital Sectoron the Global Solutions Management - Operations II (GSM-O II) contract atMacDill AFB, FL. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting the Defense Information System Network (DISN) in direct support of U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

Your Opportunity:

Are you interested in learning how a global network supports critical military operations? As a member of our MacDill AFB team, you will be embedded directly with the engineers and analysts who manage the day-to-day health and performance of the DISN. You will gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and learn how our teams ensure the reliability of vital communication networks for the DoD.

What You'll Do (Potential Projects & Learning Opportunities):

  • Assist senior engineers with functional analysis of network data and designs.
  • Learn how to convert customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Shadow the team to understand how they perform troubleshooting and fault analysis.
  • Gain exposure to a variety of operational areas, including Network Engineering, Network Operations, and Unified Capabilities (voice and video).
  • Assist with customer provisioning and the phase-out of legacy technology.
  • Help create documentation and collect metrics for government reporting.

What You'll Bring (Required):

  • Citizenship & Clearance:Must be a U.S. citizen andeligible to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Education:Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Network Engineering.
  • Technical Foundation:A foundational understanding of IT principles, basic programming logic, and networking concepts (e.g., OSI Model, TCP/IP).
  • Analytical Mindset:A strong desire to learn, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Teamwork:A collaborative attitude with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Location:This internship is basedon-site at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL.All work must be performed on site.

  • Certifications:Obtaining aCompTIA Security+certification (or any certification that aligns with DoD 8570 IAT Level II) before the start date isstrongly encouraged.
  • Hands-On Experience:Experience from home labs, class projects, or prior internships involving networking, scripting, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Basic scripting (e.g., Python, Bash).
    • Using ITSM or ticketing systems.
    • Unix/Linux environments.
