Pharmacy Technician Trainee – Outpatient Clinic Pharmacy (Oakland / Pittsburgh, PA)

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct-Hire (Permanent placement on company payroll with immediate full benefits; not a temporary job)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15213 (On-site – Oakland area)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift (Rotating weekly between 7:15 AM – 3:45 PM and 9:15 AM – 5:45 PM; No evenings, weekends, or holidays!)

New Hire Starting Base Pay: $19.20 – $21.92 per hour (Starting pay based on experience, with clear advancement pathways as you build specialized expertise.)

Future Earning Potential: Established employees have the opportunity to earn progressive pay increases up to $30.08 per hour over time through performance, tenure, and continuous learning.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Prescription Preparation & Filling: Count, label, stock, and package oral medications and retail prescription orders under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Care Coordination & Outreach: Partner with clinic providers, nurses, case managers, and social workers to assist outpatient clinic patients and eliminate prescription barriers.
  • Inventory & Quality Logs: Retrieve discontinued medications, maintain perpetual inventory logs, complete temperature/eyewash logs, and assist with medication delivery and mailings.
  • Customer Service & POS Checkout: Process retail patient transactions at the cash register using proper cash handling procedures and answer customer service calls.
  • Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Maintain clean, stocked workstations while adhering to HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy guidelines.
What We’re Looking For – Minimum Job Requirements

  • Experience: At least 1-year prior pharmacy experience required with active registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with PA State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required, currently enrolled in ACPE-accredited PharmD students with at least 2 years of school strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills for processing patient records, inventory tracking, and POS register operation.
  • Industry Knowledge: Interest in healthcare/pharmacy operations; knowledge of basic medical terminology or retail customer service is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Patient-focused attitude, strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Licensure & Clearances: Active Registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the PA State Board of Pharmacy (OR an active PA Pharmacy Intern License (for currently enrolled ACPE-accredited PharmD students who have completed 2 years of college).
