Job description

Program: Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Program
Department: Wonder with Me
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor or Internship Coordinator
Location: Various SCO Infant / Early childhood centers and programs
Position Summary: The Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) Intern will support the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Program in delivering developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and relationship-based therapeutic services. This internship is designed for a graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited Dance/Movement Therapy program seeking clinical experience with young children (ages birth to five) and their caregivers. The intern will work under the supervision of a licensed creative arts therapist and as part of a multidisciplinary team including mental health clinicians, early childhood educators, and family support specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
* Co-facilitate or lead individual and group dance/movement therapy sessions for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children and their caregivers.
* Support parent-child dyadic work using movement-based interventions to enhance attachment, emotional regulation, and communication.
* Observe and document child development, play behavior, and relational dynamics within therapeutic settings.
* Participate in clinical supervision and weekly team case conferences.
* Collaborate with mental health professionals and educators to support children's social-emotional development.
* Assist in the planning and implementation of creative arts-based programming and family engagement events.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including session notes and treatment plans, in accordance with organizational policies and ethical standards.
* Engage in reflective practice and ongoing learning around trauma, diversity, and cultural humility.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a Master's level Creative Arts Therapy program (required).
* Strong interest in infant and early childhood mental health and working with underserved communities.
* Foundational understanding of child development, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care.
* Experience with or enthusiasm for working with very young children and caregivers.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, community-based setting.
* Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
* Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Learning Opportunities:
* Supervised clinical hours toward ADTA certification (R-DMT eligibility) and graduate level internship hours.
* Training in infant mental health frameworks and reflective supervision.
* Exposure to community-based, culturally responsive service delivery.
