Job description

Join the leader in entertainment innovation and help us design the future. The Dolby U internship program offers impactful, project-based work experience in a collaborative, creative environment where you work side by side with industry leaders. Amplify your insatiable curiosity by implementing real-world solutions that revolutionize how people communicate and how entertainment is created, delivered, and enjoyed worldwide. We offer a collegial culture, challenging projects, and excellent compensation and benefits, not to mention a Flex Work approach that is truly flexible to support where, when, and how you do your best work. For any student seeking to gain invaluable expertise through meaningful, personal contributions, we invite you to join us in continuing to design a future where technology meets entertainment!

Dolby's consumer entertainment and cinema businesses are bringing Dolby's breakthrough technologies, powering the world's top movies, TV shows, music, games, and live sports to more places around the world across a wider range of consumer experiences and devices.

Join the leader in entertainment innovation and help us design the future. At Dolby, science meets art, and high tech means more than computer code. As a member of the Dolby team, you'll see and hear the results of your work everywhere, from movie theaters to smartphones. We continue to revolutionize how people create, deliver, and enjoy entertainment worldwide.

We are looking for aspiring engineers who don't just write code, but have a genuine obsession with how pixels are processed.

We have an environment of state-of-the art R&D with a culture - big enough to give you all the resources you need, and small enough so you can make a real difference. You'll be working on the development, implementation, test engineering and quality assurance of cutting-edge imaging/video processing algorithms, Dolby Vision and related technologies. Mentored by our experienced senior engineers, your work will contribute to our overall product and technology roadmap.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design and development of the Dolby Vision device SDK, ensuring high-performance integration across diverse home entertainment platforms such as TVs, STBs, and AVRs.

  • Research and develop Machine Learning-based approaches to automate perceptual image and video quality assessment.

  • Design and implement data pipelines and ML model training/evaluation frameworks to support automated quality benchmarks.

  • Utilize Python to build developer tools and automate complex engineering tasks, and support ML experimentation workflows, improving the overall efficiency of the development lifecycle.

  • Leverage AI-assisted coding techniques (e.g., LLM-based tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, etc.) to accelerate code development, streamline log analysis, and enhance automated testing processes.

  • Collaborate closely with senior software engineers to integrate new imaging features into existing projects and contribute to technical architectural discussions.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduated with a MS or PhD degrees in CS, EE, or a related field. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree will be considered if they demonstrate strong, verifiable hands-on experience directly relevant to imaging and video processing.

  • A portfolio of projects (academic, open-source, or professional) that serves as a verifiable endorsement of your development skills in imaging or multimedia.

  • Self-motivated quick learner who can independently bridge the gap between theoretical algorithms and practical software implementation.

  • Solid understanding of Machine Learning fundamentals, with hands-on experience in model training, evaluation and deployment.

  • Development skills in Python, particularly for ML experimentation, automation scripts, or image/video processing pipelines.

  • Familiarity with image/video quality metrics or perceptual quality assessment methodologies is a significant plus.

  • Experience utilizing AI coding assistants or Large Language Models to solve engineering challenges or improve coding productivity is a significant plus.

Start dates for the internship are as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible)

  • September 21, 2026
