Work EnvironmentFieldwork and office-based tasks involving mapping and data collectionPrimarily office-based with focus on spatial data analysis and mapping
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in civil engineering, urban planning, and infrastructure projectsCommon in environmental agencies, urban planning, and GIS service providers

Intern Mapping Engineers and Intern GIS Analysts often share similar educational backgrounds and work environments. However, Intern Mapping Engineers focus more on field data collection and infrastructure mapping, while Intern GIS Analysts concentrate on spatial data analysis and map creation. Both roles are essential in geospatial projects but serve different aspects of GIS workflows.

What is the role of an engineer intern?

An intern mapping engineer assists in developing and updating geographic information systems (GIS), collecting and analyzing spatial data, and supporting mapping projects. They typically work under supervision, using tools like GIS software and GPS devices to gain practical experience in engineering and mapping processes.

What does a mapping engineer do?

A mapping engineer designs, develops, and maintains geographic information systems (GIS) and digital maps. They analyze spatial data, use tools like GIS software, and ensure accurate representation of geographic features for applications such as navigation, urban planning, or environmental management.

Is 23 an hour good for an internship?

For an intern mapping engineer, $23 an hour is generally above the average internship pay, which often ranges from minimum wage to around $20 per hour depending on location and industry. This rate can be considered competitive, especially if the internship offers valuable experience with GIS tools, data analysis, and fieldwork. However, pay standards vary by region and company, so it's important to compare with local internship rates and consider other benefits offered.

Is 20 an hour good for an intern?

For an intern mapping engineer, $20 an hour is generally considered a competitive wage, especially for entry-level positions that may require basic GIS skills and knowledge of mapping tools. Interns often earn between minimum wage and $20-$25 per hour depending on location, industry, and required skills. Factors such as the cost of living and the internship's responsibilities can influence whether this rate is considered good.
