Job description

About Electrified Thermal Solutions

Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Electrified Thermal Solutions has a simple and massive goal: to electrify industry.

To do this, we are building the Joule Hive thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln.

About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern supports pilot production of the E-Brick refractory heating elements at the core of our Joule Hive thermal battery. The role is deliberately hands-on, combining regular casting and finishing of refractory elements, mold preparation, and an independent capstone engineering project with direct impact on company operations.

Your work will tangibly deepen our understanding of producing our elements at scale. You will report to the Manufacturing Engineer.

What You'll Do
  • Mix, pour, vibrate, cure, fire, QC, and package refractory E-Brick heating elements as part of the Manufacturing team

  • Prepare molds for casting, including cleaning, assembly, and repair

  • Prepare and document Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) samples for each production batch

  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements that increase throughput, consistency, and quality

  • Write and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) for casting, mold preparation, and lab equipment

  • Keep the production area, samples, tooling, and materials clean, organized, and cataloged

  • Execute a capstone engineering project with direct impact on company operations

Travel: No travel is anticipated for this role.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • An enthusiastic approach and resilience in the face of challenging technical problems

  • Experience with hands-on work in a professional or educational setting, such as lab work, production, or construction

  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to adhering to workplace safety procedures and contributing to safety culture

  • Comfort working with your hands; comfort working with power tools or heavy machinery

  • Ability to lift and carry 50lb material bags, stand for extended periods, and work in personal protective equipment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar data management tools

Preferred

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape, or Fusion 360)

  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing (FDM or SLA 3D printing), including design for printability and polymer material selection

  • Coursework or project experience designing fixtures, tooling, or material-handling hardware

  • Experience with process improvement or operational efficiency initiatives

$25 - $25 biweekly
