Intern Llm Developer information

What does an intern LLM developer do?

An Intern LLM (Large Language Model) Developer supports the development, testing, and deployment of AI models, specifically large language models like GPT or BERT. Their responsibilities often include data preprocessing, model fine-tuning, writing code to interact with APIs, and evaluating model performance. Interns work under the guidance of senior developers and researchers to gain hands-on experience in natural language processing and AI. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to build practical skills in machine learning and AI development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern LLM developer?

To thrive as an Intern LLM Developer, you generally need a solid background in computer science, programming (especially Python), and foundational knowledge of machine learning concepts. Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, version control systems such as Git, and exposure to large language models (LLMs) are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate and learn in dynamic team environments. These skills and qualities are vital for contributing to cutting-edge AI projects and rapidly adapting to evolving technologies in the field.

What types of projects and learning opportunities can an intern LLM developer expect during their internship?

As an Intern LLM Developer, you can expect to participate in hands-on projects involving the development, fine-tuning, or evaluation of large language models (LLMs). Typical responsibilities include data preprocessing, implementing model training pipelines, and collaborating with senior engineers and data scientists to optimize model performance. You'll also have opportunities to contribute to research on natural language processing (NLP) tasks and gain exposure to industry-standard tools and frameworks. This role offers valuable mentorship and the chance to build practical skills in machine learning and AI, setting a strong foundation for a future career in the field.

Job description

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

Our Cloud Memory Business Unit is pioneering next-generation memory for datacenter and AI workloads. In this internship you will help build an AI-powered research and simulation platform — a multi-agent system that turns large volumes of external and internal technical signals into evidence-backed, simulation-validated architectural insights that guide our long-term technology and product strategy.

We are seeking a software-centric AI Agentic Systems Engineer Intern to help design, build, and productize an internal agentic AI platform. You will develop and harden multi-agent workflows, contribute to an automated hypothesis-generation and test-planning capability, and help deploy the platform on managed cloud infrastructure. This is a hands-on development role for someone comfortable with modern AI tooling, agentic frameworks, large language model (LLM) APIs, and cloud services. Applying Artificial Intelligence is expected and central to this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Agent development: Design, build, and evaluate AI agents that automate multi-stage research and analysis workflows.
  • LLM workflows: Implement agentic patterns — prompt design, tool/function calling, and orchestration — with an emphasis on reliability, traceability, and output quality.
  • Cloud deployment: Help deploy AI workloads onto managed cloud infrastructure, partnering with IT on identity, security, and cost governance.
  • Data & knowledge integration: Integrate structured and unstructured data sources to support retrieval, reasoning, and persistent memory across analyses.
  • Tooling: Develop reusable software tools and services that extend the platform's capabilities.
  • AI integration: Incorporate AI methods across the development flow and document designs and evaluation criteria for reproducibility.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python; comfortable building and debugging non-trivial systems.
  • Working knowledge of LLMs and agentic AI — prompt design, tool/function calling, and multi-agent or workflow frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, AutoGen, or similar).
  • Familiarity with cloud services and containers (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP acceptable), REST APIs, and version control (Git).
  • Good verbal and written communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cloud AI platforms, managed Kubernetes, graph/document databases, or enterprise search.
  • Exposure to knowledge graphs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or vector databases.
  • Experience productizing research code into governed, auditable services (RBAC, CI/CD, observability).
  • Interest in memory/AI systems and the datacenter/AI infrastructure landscape.
What You'll Gain

Ship production-grade agentic AI workflows in a secure, governed cloud environment, and gain end-to-end experience in AI platform engineering while working alongside senior memory and systems architects.
