Job description

Electrical Product Development Engineer

Location: On-Site (Relocation Assistance Available)

About the Opportunity

Join a growing engineering team developing next-generation industrial LED lighting products. As an Electrical Product Development Engineer, you'll lead the design and development of power electronics from initial concept through production, owning projects that directly impact product performance, manufacturability, and long-term reliability.

This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering position where you'll work directly with engineering leadership while collaborating with manufacturing, operations, and cross-functional teams to bring innovative products to market.

Lead Product Development
  • Design electrical circuits, switching power supplies, LED drivers, and other power electronic systems for new product development.
  • Create electrical schematics and multilayer PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept designs to evaluate new technologies and product enhancements.
  • Own projects from concept and design through validation, production release, and ongoing product improvements.
  • Drive engineering changes based on product testing, manufacturing feedback, and field performance.
  • Maintain ECAD files, engineering documentation, and design revisions throughout the product lifecycle.

Testing & Validation
  • Develop and execute electrical validation plans for new products.
  • Troubleshoot and debug electronic hardware at the circuit level using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, bench power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis on product failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support product certification activities, including UL compliance and EMC testing.
  • Design electrical test procedures and production test fixtures to improve manufacturing quality and repeatability.

Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with manufacturing during prototype and production builds to ensure successful product launches.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and verify components meet engineering requirements.
  • Evaluate alternate components and support supplier qualification efforts.
  • Provide technical support for SMT and PCB assembly processes.
  • Assist Sales, Customer Support, and Operations by providing technical guidance on products and applications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to improve product quality, manufacturability, and reliability.

Project Leadership
  • Manage multiple engineering projects while balancing schedules, priorities, and technical deliverables.
  • Communicate project progress, technical challenges, and risk mitigation plans to engineering leadership.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, continuous improvement culture.
  • Take ownership of technical decisions while helping drive innovative product solutions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Five or more years of hands-on experience designing switching power supplies, LED drivers, or similar power electronics.
  • Strong proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience debugging electronic hardware independently at the circuit level.
  • Demonstrated experience managing products from concept through production.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.

Ideal Background

Experience with any combination of the following is highly valued:

  • Industrial LED lighting products
  • Switching power supplies and power conversion
  • LED driver design
  • UL certification (1598, 8750, or similar)
  • EMC/EMI testing and compliance
  • Three-phase electrical systems
  • Embedded firmware development (C, Python, or similar)
  • Product validation, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement initiatives

Benefits
  • Relocation assistance available
  • 100% employer-paid employee health insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Opportunity to work directly with executive engineering leadership while helping develop innovative industrial lighting products
