Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and enthusiastic IT Intern for Mfg. applications domain to join our dynamic team in San Jose office, United States. This internship opportunity offers hands-on experience in supporting our efforts to transform Mfg./MES applications from legacy to modern platforms and to automate business processes and IT systems using the latest technologies including AI/ML tools. As a member of our IT team, you will collaborate with our managed services provider and internal stakeholders to identify automation opportunities, help design, develop and test IT solutions, and promote self-service capabilities to end users. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone eager to apply technical and communication skills to real-world challenges, drive innovation, and make a tangible impact within a global organization.

  • Assist in identifying and analyzing our Mfg. IT application issues and help to fix or improve them.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements for our ongoing Mfg./MES IT projects.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of automated solution using various tools and technologies.
  • Support development and delivery of communications and training materials to engage end users and increase adoption of new self-service options.
  • Support the team in monitoring and optimizing existing automated processes
  • Work with IT teams and managed service providers to identify and document high-priority automation opportunities.
  • Stay updated on emerging automation and AI trends and best practices to inform our MES transformation roadmap.

This role is part of WD's early career development program. WD's early career development program is ideal for individuals at the early stages of their professional career.  Participants receive foundational training through structured onboarding, mentorship, and a curated development curriculum. The responsibilities of this role are typically aligned with candidates who have approximately 0–2+ years of relevant professional experience, though candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or a master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Basic programming skills, with knowledge of languages such as .Net/C#, Java, Angular, React, Python or JavaScript
  • Basic understanding of process automation, scripting, or workflow tools.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and cloud computing platforms
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies (including emerging AI/ML tools) and methodologies quickly
  • No prior work experience required; however, relevant academic projects or personal initiatives are a plus
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communications skills, organizational capabilities, and collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate excellent problem solving

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York.  This range may be modified in the future.
  • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws.  You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
  • You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either WD’s Short Term Incentive Plan (“STI Plan”) or the Sales Incentive Plan (“SIP”) which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance. You may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
