Administrative Intern

We are inviting professional and positive individuals to join the Anoka County Sheriff's Office as an Administrative Intern. Our members follow the mission, "To protect and serve the community in a manner that preserves the public trust." The Anoka County Sheriff's Office promotes teamwork, fosters a positive working environment, and maintains a reputation and tradition of excellence.

The Associate Administrative Assistant will possess beginning to working knowledge of subject matter, handle basic issues and problems associated with department administration and clerical support, and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff. This is a temporary, non-exempt position.

Pay & Benefits

Anoka County Salary $18.75 per hour. Advancement/professional development opportunities.

Work Location

This position will work at Anoka County Sheriff's Office located at 13301 Hanson Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304. Actual work hours will vary, but will be during general business hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Administrative Intern.

  • Maintain office supply levels by monitoring and replenishing paper and related materials as needed.
  • Perform document scanning and ensure files are organized and stored appropriately.
  • Organize and alphabetize civil paperwork to support efficient record management.
  • Assist with the CID case Criminal Investigations Division naming project by accurately labeling and categorizing case files for Sheriff's office.
  • Provide general administrative support, including data entry, sorting and filing documents, and other clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Support various divisions by completing routine, entry-level office tasks suitable for an intern.
  • Assist with project teams, by helping organize information, track progress, and complete assigned tasks.

Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Must be 16 years of age or older by date of hire. Successfully pass an extensive background investigation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Current high school student. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Standard office environment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work. Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. No tattoos, scars or brands that qualify as "Unauthorized Tattoos" under the Sheriff's Office Policy 1044.3 are allowed under any circumstances by any member of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Tattoos on the head, face, neck, or hands are prohibited. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. (Complete policy available upon request).

Anoka County has determined that successfully passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen and DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks may be necessary for certain positions. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.
