Job description

Medium Voltage Cable Splicer

Sentry Electrical Group, Inc.

Traveling Role | Nationwide Renewable Energy Projects

Per Diem Available | Full Benefits | 401(k) | Experienced Splicers Only

WHO WE ARE

Sentry Electrical Group is a specialty contractor working exclusively in the renewable energy industry, with projects spanning wind and solar installations across the country. Our medium voltage crews are responsible for the collection systems that move power from individual turbines and solar arrays to the substation - the backbone of every renewable energy site we build. It is technical, hands-on work performed by experienced splicers who take pride in clean, reliable terminations that will run for decades.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Medium Voltage Cable Splicer, you will perform skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices for the termination and splicing of medium voltage cable systems. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Performing terminations, T-body connections, inline splices, URD splices, and metal shield splices on medium voltage cable
  • Working with 3M splice kits, Cooper T-bodies, and other industry-standard termination products
  • Connecting wiring and equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code and project specifications
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and cable schedules
  • Safely operating tools and equipment such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers, and cable vacuum systems
  • Performing cable testing and verification to confirm the integrity of completed splices and terminations
  • Working closely with your crew lead and project superintendent to hit daily milestones
  • Maintaining strict adherence to OSHA guidelines and Sentry safety procedures at all times
  • Traveling to project sites across the U.S.; overtime and variable schedules are a normal part of this role

WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE

This is a role for experienced splicers who take the craft seriously. We are looking for technicians who can step onto a site, work independently, and deliver clean, code-compliant work under pressure.

Our best splicers typically come from backgrounds like:

  • Utility, line, or substation work with hands-on medium voltage termination and splicing experience
  • Industrial or commercial electrical work involving 5kV-35kV cable systems
  • Renewable energy collection system installation on wind or solar projects
  • Military electrical specialties or other structured, team-oriented environments where precision and accountability matter

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

This is an experienced position. To be considered, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate hands-on experience with 3M splice kits and Cooper T-bodies
  • Perform terminations and splices on medium voltage cable systems independently and to specification
  • Read and understand electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer installation instructions
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safe work practices around energized and de-energized systems
  • Manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with crew, leadership, and site personnel
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions throughout the day
  • Stand, kneel, bend, and work outdoors in variable weather conditions on active job sites
  • Hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a passport (travel required)
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Read, write, and communicate in English
  • Pass a pre-employment background investigation and drug test; Sentry maintains a drug-free workplace

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary based on experience and demonstrated skill
  • Per diem for qualifying travel assignments
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Electrical Apprenticeship Program - for those looking to formalize their credentials, we offer a fully sponsored apprenticeship pathway with 100% of tuition and books covered by Sentry, upon meeting program eligibility thresholds
  • Consistent work on active project sites across the country
