Job Title: Hvac Apprentice
Job Description
This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial environments such as offices, retail locations, and other business facilities. You will use blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot and service existing HVAC units, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair commercial HVAC systems in a variety of business settings.
- Regularly inspect and test HVAC systems to verify proper operation and identify potential issues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in HVAC systems using blueprints, schematics, and electrical knowledge.
- Repair or replace faulty components, including electrical and mechanical parts, to restore system performance.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system efficiency and reliability.
- Verify that HVAC systems meet energy efficiency targets and comply with safety and environmental standards.
- Perform boiler-related service and maintenance as required.
- Document work performed, including repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities, in a clear and accurate manner.
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and repair options to appropriate stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Travel independently to job sites within the service area, ensuring timely arrival and completion of assigned work.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to urgent service requests and system failures.
- Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment while on job sites.
Essential Skills
- 1-5 years of experience in HVAC service, in either commercial or residential settings.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC servicing, including installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing HVAC system issues, including electrical and mechanical problems.
- Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Experience working with boilers as part of HVAC systems.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- EPA certification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites.
- Ability to work independently in the field and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and industry standards.

Work Environment

The team currently consists of a small, close-knit group of technicians and staff, with plans for continued growth. Work is primarily performed within approximately 30 miles of the headquarters in the Rochester, NY area, and technicians drive themselves to job sites using their own transportation. Typical hours follow a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. Service technicians participate in an on-call rotation, remaining available 24 hours a day for one week (Monday through Sunday) approximately every five to six weeks, with a bonus provided for each on-call week. The company supplies power tools and all necessary personal protective equipment except work boots, supporting a safe and efficient field environment across a range of project sizes and locations.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
