Role Description
As an Industrial IoT Integration Engineer, you will build the critical bridges between our intelligent orchestration platform and the physical world. You will design, develop, and maintain the library of drivers and connectors that allow Hammerhead ORCA to communicate with a diverse array of data center assets-from utility meters and cooling systems to GPU clusters and building management systems (BMS). Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will ensure our system can reliably ingest high-frequency telemetry and execute precise control actions across multi-vendor hardware environments, effectively translating RL decisions into physical reality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Connector Development: Architect and build high-performance, bi-directional connectors leveraging protocols such as MQTT, SNMP, IPMI, and Redfish, as well as RESTful APIs, to interface with power, cooling, and compute infrastructure.
  • Device Abstraction: Create a unified hardware abstraction layer that normalizes data from disparate vendors and equipment types, allowing our RL agents to interact with a standardized model of the data center.
  • Reliability & Safety: Implement robust error handling, connection pooling, and fail-safe mechanisms to ensure safe operation of mission-critical power and cooling assets during network interruptions or device failures.
  • Latency Optimization: Optimize data ingestion pipelines and concurrent dataflows in Golang to minimize latency, ensuring real-time telemetry reaches our control loop within milliseconds.
  • Field Integration: Collaborate with deployment teams to troubleshoot protocol and network issues in the field and expand our library of supported devices as we scale to new data center sites globally.

Qualifications
  • Protocol Expert: Deep understanding of network and IoT communication protocols such as MQTT, SNMP, Redfish, and REST APIs. Experience with OpenADR is a plus.
  • Concurrent Systems Programming: 3+ years of experience in Golang, with a strong focus on concurrency, parallelism, and network I/O patterns. Experience with Python, C++, or Rust is advantageous.
  • Hardware Intimacy: Comfortable working with physical devices, IoT sensors, PLCs, or Building Management Systems (BMS). Skilled in debugging packet captures and interpreting equipment technical documentation.
  • Data Center Knowledge: Familiarity with data center infrastructure (UPS, PDUs, chillers, CRACs) or similar industrial control environments.
  • Scrappy & Resourceful: Able to reverse-engineer proprietary interfaces in the morning and design scalable device control architectures in the afternoon.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary, bonus, 401(k) plan and equity in a rapidly growing startup
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Opportunity to apply the latest AI technologies working with an experienced team
