Job description

QISG leverages Quanta’s comprehensive resources to deliver collaborative solutions for our partners' energy infrastructure needs. We use in-house talent, expertise and resources to plan, design, engineer, manage, conduct maintenance on and construct projects.

Our turnkey service capabilities provide our customers with efficiency, consistency, attention to detail and safe execution. The QISG team brings together Engineering, Safety, Quality, Material Procurement, QA/QC, Right-of-Way Acquisition, Scheduling, Environmental Planning, Permitting, Title and Land Management expertise that ensure outstanding results for our clients.

At QISG, our Transmission Line teams play a vital role in the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of power across communities and regions. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and project managers who design, build, maintain, and upgrade high-voltage transmission infrastructure that supports the backbone of the electric grid. You’ll gain hands-on experience with both traditional engineering methods and the latest industry innovations, helping deliver sustainable, cost-effective, and reliable solutions for our customers.

  • Assist engineers with all aspects of overhead transmission line design, including PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, and structure analysis.
  • Support drafting and mapping using AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar software.
  • Implement engineering redlines and ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations, such as sag-tension analysis and pole loading checks, under supervision.
  • Help prepare documentation, reports, and design packages for project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop and refine engineering solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, field data collection, and technical meetings.
  • Maintain organized records of design data, drawings, and project notes.
  • Work approximately 40 hours per week during the internship period.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Coursework or familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or PLS-CADD.
  • Basic understanding of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IBC.

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and interest in power delivery systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced engineering environment.

As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience, mentorship from industry professionals, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to real projects. You’ll also build valuable skills and connections to support your future career.
