The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Office's Internship Program provides current college Juniors and Senior students, majoring in a related field, the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of law enforcement. The goal of the internship is to expose students to the day-to-day operations of law enforcement, including Investigations, Uniform Patrol, Dispatching , Corrections, Community Policing, and the Academy.

Key Components of the Internship Program:

1. **Learning Opportunities:**
- Interns may observe and assist Deputies in daily tasks, such as seeing and interacting with investigations, working with Crime Scene, or assisting with fact finding for reports.
- They will be introduced to technology, such as body cameras, forensic tools, and communication systems.
- Interns often participate in training exercises or workshops related to criminal justice topics, such as legal processes, policing strategies, and Procedural Justice in Law Enforcement.

2. **Hands-On Experience:**
- Most interns will go on ride-alongs with Deputies or assist with administrative duties.
- Depending on when the Intern starts and their availability, they may have the opportunity to participate in special operations, such as community outreach programs or youth crime prevention initiatives.

3. **Mentorship:**
- Interns are paired with experienced staff who act as mentors, providing guidance and answering questions about the law enforcement profession.

4. **Exposure to Different Units or Divisions:**
- Interns will be offered the opportunity to work in various units within the department, such as Warrants, Financial Crimes, (CIU) Criminal Information Unit, and Courtroom Security.

5. **Eligibility Requirements:**
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old, able to move freely without assistance, currently enrolled in a Criminal Justice or law enforcement-related degree program, and have permission or approval from a school professor, Dean, or program administrator.
- A background check is required prior to being accepted by EBRSO and the Intern must not have a background or be in a current position that is considered

6. **Program Duration and Benefits:**
- Internship durations can vary, typically lasting from a few weeks to a few months.
- The EBRSO Internship Program is an "non-compensated" (no pay), opportunity. In lieu of pay, Interns may receive academic credit for their work, pending their completion, with the approval of their program of study or college, and/or receive a letter from EBRSO, stating their service to the community.

1. Student sends a letter or email requesting to participate, along with a letter on stationery or letterhead from the academic institution
2.Complete an Internship application
3.Submit a resume, cover letter, and possibly a statement of interest
4.Be available for interview with the Internship Coordinator (EBRSO reserves the right accept or deny, without cause or explanation)
5.Provide EBRSO with copies of supporting documents such as:

7. Copy of school ID
8. Copy of Social Security Card
9. Copy of Birth Certificate
10. Copy of High School or G.E.D. certificate
11. Copy of current (unofficial) transcripts
12. Returned and completed, Authorization to Release Information form (provided by EBRSO)
13. Returned and completed, Emergency Contact Form (provided by EBRSO)
14. Returned and completed, Hold Harmless and Liability form (provided by EBRSO)

Illegal marijuana use in the last 12 months or use of other illegal drugs in the last 24 months will disqualify an applicant from employment.

Applicants must be agree to have criminal, credit, education and employment history checks conducted. Truth verification examination may be required to validate information provided during the selection process. Post employment job offer medical examination and drug test is required.
