Job description

XR Trading is a proprietary trading firm with employees in the Netherlands, Singapore, UK and US. XR participates in a wide variety of marketplaces including global futures, equities, commodities, options, fixed income, and cryptocurrencies. Our culture emphasizes teamwork and focuses on continuous integration and test-driven development.
We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with computers at a hands-on level, including building, configuring, and troubleshooting systems. Candidates who have experience with PC hardware, have built or upgraded their own systems, or enjoy diagnosing technical issues will be a strong fit.
Job Function & Responsibilities
  • We are seeking a talented and self-motivated IT Intern to join our growing IT team
  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot PC hardware and operating systems
  • Assist with building, imaging, and deploying workstations across multiple hardware models
  • Actively seek out and participate in projects to maintain and improve the systems/network environment
  • Create and maintain standard PC images for multiple workstation models
  • Process, monitor and prioritize trouble tickets
  • Troubleshoot basic TCP/IP issues
  • Assist in managing and maintaining technology inventory
  • Install and monitor antivirus software
  • Support other key initiatives as the business dictates
  • Write or modify basic scripts (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to automate simple tasks where applicable
  • This is a paid internship
  • The applicant will have the opportunity to work at least 20 hours, but no more than 30 hours per week year-round
  • We are not seeking summer interns

Location
  • Intern must be a US citizen
  • Hybrid Opportunity: Individual must live in the Chicagoland area and be able to commute to the XR Trading Chicago Office: 550 W Jackson Blvd Suite 1000 Chicago, IL 60661

Education
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in a technical area such as computer science or information science within commutable distance from Chicago Loop

Required Experience & Skills
  • Desire to work and learn in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Experience working with computer hardware, system setup, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, Node.js or other scripting languages (used for basic automation tasks)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A self-motivated personality
  • Curiosity about how systems work end-to-end and willingness to learn by doing
