Job description


Your Opportunity
The Fire Alarm Designer performs basic technical duties under the supervision of the Fire Alarm Discipline Lead. Understands and identifies project requirements and performs independent technical work on basic tasks within own discipline. Coordinates production with workgroup. Provides updates to Discipline Lead, Senior Project Designer, or Project Manager on completion of duties.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Works with a team of technical staff to develop project deliverables ranging from design documents to technical reports.
  • Applies design knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within own discipline.
  • Coordinates tasks with other teams across the firm and outside sources.
  • Assists discipline lead and senior project designers with more advanced technical activities.
  • Uses appropriate technology and software (i.e. CAD and Revit) to prepare project deliverables.
  • Performs or delegates production tasks.
  • Perform surveys of existing buildings to document existing fire alarm system conditions.
  • Assist discipline lead or senior project engineer in preparation of fire alarm construction documents (drawings and specifications) for issuance to contractors.
  • Review fire alarm submittals (shop drawings and calculations) and respond to requests for information.
  • Attend punch walks throughout construction phase to verify fire alarm system installation compliance with construction documents and applicable codes.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with applicable software (i.e. CAD and Revit) within the Fire Alarm discipline.
  • Aptitude and drive to analyze complex problems and convey solutions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to effectively shift attention between multiple projects.
  • Experience and desire to work in an entrepreneurial and innovative environment.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of engineering practices within own discipline.
  • Familiarity with codes utilized for fire alarm system design (NFPA, International Building Code, Life Safety Code).
  • Able to identify fire alarm system devices and components in existing buildings to complete building surveys and punch walks.
  • Possesses basic understanding of how fire alarm systems interact with other building systems (sprinkler, HVAC, security).

Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years related industry experience required.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
