Job description

Firmware Engineering Intern Position Overview

We are looking for a graduate-level intern to support the development, simulation, and testing of embedded firmware and control algorithms for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.

The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Control Systems, Power Electronics, or a related field. A background in digital signal processing, control systems, power conversion, or model-based development is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and testing of embedded firmware for UPS power conversion systems.
  • Model and simulate power converters and control systems using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Assist with the implementation of digital control algorithms on DSPs or microcontrollers.
  • Support Model-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop, and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing activities.
  • Develop and execute test cases to evaluate control performance, firmware behavior, and fault conditions.
  • Compare simulation results with embedded software and hardware test results.
  • Support laboratory testing, debugging, and analysis of power electronic hardware.
  • Work with power conversion stages such as PFC converters, DC/DC converters, and inverters.
  • Document simulation results, test data, and technical findings.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, controls, and test engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Coursework, research, or project experience in control systems, DSP, embedded systems, or power electronics.
  • Experience with MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Basic programming experience in C or C++.
  • Basic understanding of feedback control and power conversion concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Model-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop, or Hardware-in-the-Loop validation.
  • Experience creating simulation models, test cases, or automated test scripts.
  • Familiarity with DSPs or embedded microcontrollers.
  • Exposure to PFC, DC/DC converter, or inverter topologies.
  • Experience working with oscilloscopes and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of PWM, digital control loops, or real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience with Python, Git, or automated testing is a plus.
