Job description

onsemi is seeking a principal reliability engineer to work in a fast-paced environment and be a key team member to accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge Gallium Nitride (GaN) products and technologies. The candidate will collaborate with multiple business units, multidisciplinary team focusing on GaN technology reliability assessment and product qualification. This role demands a proactive approach, electrical engineering / material /device physics background with an understanding of semiconductor reliability, and effective communication skills. This is an on-site role based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Bachelor's in electrical engineering, Material Science, Physics, or related discipline. M.S. or PhD is preferred

5 plus years in a comparable role.

Understanding reliability testing methodologies (DHTOL, HTRB, HTGB, TC, THB, etc.) and failure analysis techniques.

Knowledge of industry standards (JEDEC, AEC, AQG). Active participation in industry consortia and standards development is a plus.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communications skills, including the ability to challenge ideas in a healthy manner.

Fundamental understanding of statistical distribution (Weibull, lognormal etc.), experience with Minitab, JMP or other statistical tools for data analysis, and understanding of the science related to semiconductor fab processes, inspection, and failure analysis.

Willingness to travel (US domestic and international) <10%.

  • Work closely with design, technology development, and device engineering groups to define reliability test methodologies focused on early identification of reliability challenges during GaN technology development.
  • Perform reliability data analysis and prepare internal/external reports for communication.
  • Help develop technology and product qualification plans and work with global reliability teams to ensure effective and timely execution of test plans.
  • Coordinate accelerated reliability stress tests to develop reliability acceleration models. Help drive failure analysis, root cause analysis to address failures (if any)
  • Facilitate structured problem-solving by using industry-standard tools such as Is/Is-Not, Fault Tree Analysis, Fishbone, 5-why, and 8D methodology.
  • Multitask and manage several qualifications simultaneously.
