What does an intern electrical project manager do?

An Intern Electrical Project Manager assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical projects within an organization. Their responsibilities typically include supporting project documentation, helping to track project progress, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and assisting senior project managers with scheduling and budgeting tasks. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in managing electrical engineering projects, helping interns develop both technical and project management skills. Interns often work under the supervision of experienced professionals and contribute to ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

What types of projects and tasks can an intern electrical project manager expect to be involved with during their internship?

As an Intern Electrical Project Manager, you'll typically assist with a variety of tasks such as coordinating project schedules, supporting the development of electrical system designs, and helping manage documentation for ongoing projects. You may also attend project meetings, communicate with contractors and suppliers, and collaborate with engineers and senior project managers to ensure project milestones are met. This hands-on experience provides valuable exposure to industry-standard practices and helps you build foundational skills in project management and electrical systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern electrical project manager, and why are they important?

  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Full benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.)
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle (varies by experience level)
  • Long-term career growth within a top-tier MEP contractor

Why Join the Special Projects Division?
  • Fast-paced, high-impact project environment
  • Strong client interaction and repeat business
  • Greater project variety vs. large-scale construction roles
  • Opportunity for autonomy and decision-making
  • Backed by the resources of a large, established contractor

Interview Process
  • Initial virtual interview with leadership
  • Follow-up in-person meeting with operations team

Qualified candidates seeking a dynamic Electrical Project Manager opportunity within a respected MEP contractor’s Special Projects Division are encouraged to apply.
