Job description

  • Develop familiarity with KIHOMAC proposal development processes, templates, writing standards, and document-control practices
  • Support the Proposal Manager and proposal team with proofreading and copy editing of proposals, responses to solicitations, presentations, marketing materials, and other business development documents
  • Review documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, readability, formatting, and adherence to established style guidelines
  • Assist with checking document consistency, including headings, acronyms, terminology, numbering, cross-references, tables, figures, and captions
  • Assist with formatting and preparing Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents using established templates and styles
  • Learn to distinguish between copy editing, substantive editing, and changes that require approval from the original author or technical subject matter expert
  • Assist with maintaining document version control and incorporating comments and revisions from multiple contributors
  • Participate in proposal reviews and learn the basic stages of the Government contracting proposal development process
  • Assist with final document quality-control reviews prior to submission or publication
  • Work collaboratively with proposal writers, technical subject matter experts, Business Development personnel, and other contributors
  • Develop the ability to identify unclear or inconsistent content and appropriately raise questions rather than independently changing technical meaning
  • Protect proprietary, competition-sensitive, and customer information encountered while performing assigned duties
  • Accept coaching and editorial feedback and demonstrate progressive improvement throughout the internship
  • Assist with department administrative duties as necessary to learn about the work being performed and contribute to department workload
  • Interns will work 15-25 hours per week; summer interns will typically work 40 hours per week
  • This position will work on-site at the KIHOMAC Byron, Georgia facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education/Training: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be actively enrolled in a post-high school education program in one of the following fields of study: English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Professional Writing, Business Administration, Marketing
  • Preference will be given to Junior/Senior students with 3.0+ Overall GPAs or 3.5 Program GPAs

Experience:

  • 0+ years of professional experience in the required task area 
  • Must have a basic understanding of written communication, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and document organization
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills required
  • Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and professional writing conventions required
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word; familiarity with Track Changes, comments, and document formatting preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat preferred
  • Ability to review written material for consistency, clarity, formatting, and grammatical accuracy required
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, processes, and document standards required

Security:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance may be required

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to occasionally reach with hands and arms
  • Prolonged periods of computer screen use, while sitting or standing at a desk
  • Adhere to safety protocols when in work areas requiring use of PPE (e.g. eyewear, gloves, masks, hearing protection, steel toed shoes, etc.)
  • Able to safely lift and carry up to 20 pounds at a time
