Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer based in Netherlands.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced infrastructure leader to take ownership of a large-scale, high-traffic scraping platform operating at massive global scale. In this role, you will shape and drive the evolution of cloud infrastructure that processes billions of requests, ensuring reliability, security, and performance under extreme load. You will be responsible for defining the platform roadmap, optimizing complex distributed systems, and leading major infrastructure consolidation initiatives. Working in a fast-moving, remote-first engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with developers while also influencing architecture, cost efficiency, and operational excellence. The role combines hands-on technical depth with strategic leadership, especially in areas such as Kubernetes, observability, and infrastructure automation. It is ideal for engineers who thrive in ownership-driven environments and enjoy solving complex scalability and cost challenges.

Accountabilities
  • Own and drive the end-to-end platform roadmap, identifying critical improvements, infrastructure gaps, and long-term architectural priorities.
  • Lead the consolidation of multiple infrastructure stacks into a unified, scalable, and reliable platform with minimal operational disruption.
  • Design and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, scalability, security, and cost efficiency across large-scale distributed systems.
  • Implement robust monitoring, alerting, logging, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure system reliability and resilience.
  • Take ownership of infrastructure cost optimization, including high-impact areas such as proxy and compute expenses, while maintaining performance and security.
  • Strengthen platform security posture by proactively addressing vulnerabilities and defending against evolving threats and attack vectors.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, contributing to system design decisions and supporting development workflows, including AI-related initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers and help elevate overall platform engineering maturity, including tooling, processes, and best practices.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering roles at scale.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and building CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud and hosting environments, ideally including DigitalOcean, Hetzner, or similar infrastructure providers.
  • Experience with databases and data systems such as PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, and MongoDB is a plus.
  • Expertise in monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, ELK stack) with a strong sense of operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing infrastructure costs and improving system performance in production environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical stakeholders in a fully remote, async-first setup.
  • Proven hands-on use of AI tools to deliver measurable engineering or operational improvements.
  • Experience mentoring or leading other engineers in a technical capacity.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position with maximum flexibility in working location and hours.
  • High autonomy and ownership in a trust-based engineering culture.
  • Opportunity to shape and lead infrastructure at massive scale with real business impact.
  • Minimal bureaucracy and a strong focus on efficiency and engineering excellence.
  • Collaborative, friendly, and globally distributed engineering team.
  • Access to a wider SaaS engineering network for knowledge sharing and growth.
  • Flexible time off to support rest and work-life balance.
  • Transparent, market-aligned compensation shared prior to the interview process.
