Job Summary:

The Internship 'Database Administrator or "DBA," shall provide technical support at a fundamental level, given the skillset's and abilities as noted in the candidate's resume-profile. This position may perform routine Database administration and assist with writing and/or developing basic SQL code in reference to Microsoft's SQL Server platform.

Schedule: Hours may vary from 20 hours per week up to 40 hours per week.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. A minimum of three days on-site at the ADWR office per week is required.

All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Gain knowledge in Database administration, up to and including SQL coding.
  • Assist the Senior Database Administrator on certain day-to-day tasks, which may
    include onboarding and offboarding of ADWR employees in an Oracle database
    environment, along with creating and updating user profiles.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding with MS SQL Server basic administration
    tasks, such as creating and managing user accounts, granting permissions and
    roles, backup and recovery strategies, and other essential functions of database
    management.
  • Assist Application Development on an as-needed basis for SQL code tuning,
    best method of execution, and error resolution.
  • Gain knowledge in PYTHON scripting and leverage as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The ideal candidate should have:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic knowledge of database structures and familiarity with relational data
    storage and retrieval.
  • Proficiency with common office software (Microsoft Word, Excel).

Skills in:

  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Moderate level of organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Managing detailed data entry with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Using spreadsheets and databases to enter, track, manage, and retrieve information
  • Working cooperatively in a team environment

Ability to:

  • Follow instructions and complete tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate at a professional level, either in person and/or in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Selective Preference(s):

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in water resources, environmental policy, or public service and possess strong organizational and communication skills to support program activities.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Data Science, Cybersecurity or a similar field.
