Summary/ Goal of Position:
The WERACE Student Intern provides hands-on support to key areas of adult education programming, including student outreach, data entry, and workforce development assistance. This internship offers an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in education and public service while contributing to the success of adult learners.
WERACE currently has four intern openings. Each intern will work closely with and report directly to one of the following WERACE leadership team members, depending on the focus area of the placement:
  • Assistant Director of Adult Basic and Secondary Education
  • Assistant Director of Family Literacy and Multilingual Learner Programs for Adult Education
  • Workforce Development Coordinator and Career Navigator
  • Data and Assessment Manager

Essential Tasks of the Position (Illustrative, not inclusive)
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance in the LACES student information system under staff supervision.
  • Support the coordination of student orientation by preparing materials, confirming appointments, and greeting students.
  • Help schedule CASAS testing sessions (under certified staff supervision), including check-in procedures and setup.
  • Contact current or recently inactive students via phone or email to confirm attendance, assist with rescheduling, or provide reminders.
  • Help manage the online registration portal by monitoring form submissions and flagging incomplete applications for follow-up.
  • Assist in maintaining WERACE's social media presence by drafting content, sharing program highlights, and promoting events under staff guidance.
  • Shadow and support the Workforce Development and Transitions Coordinators in delivering job readiness or career pathway activities.
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions as appropriate to gain exposure to adult education systems and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of WERACE operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must currently be, or have been, a WERACE student within the six months prior to hire.
  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a high school diploma/GED, ESL, or workforce readiness program preferred.
  • Interest in pursuing experience in education, workforce development, or public service.
  • Willingness to participate in required onboarding and training, including confidentiality and data privacy protocols.

Reports to:
Each student intern will report directly to one member of the WERACE leadership team depending on the focus area of the placement.
Work Schedule:
The weekly schedule will be determined based on the intern's availability, the supervisor's schedule, and the overall needs of the WERACE program. Interns may work up to 15 hours per week for a period of 18 weeks, with the opportunity to renew the internship up to two additional terms based on program needs and intern performance.
Students currently enrolled in WERACE's High School Credit Diploma Program may earn one vocational credit per internship term, for a maximum of two credits, upon successful completion of the internship.
Hourly Rate of Pay:
$16.94/hour
