What does an Intern Computer do?

An Intern Computer, often referred to as a Computer Intern, typically assists IT departments or tech teams by supporting software development, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and helping with data analysis or documentation. These interns gain hands-on experience with various computer systems, programming languages, and workplace technologies. They work under the supervision of experienced professionals and may also contribute to specific projects or tasks, depending on the organization's needs. This role is a valuable opportunity for students or recent graduates to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern Computer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Intern, you need foundational knowledge in computer science principles, programming languages, and problem-solving, usually supported by current enrollment in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with software development tools, version control systems like Git, and basic debugging or testing frameworks is often expected. Strong communication, eagerness to learn, and teamwork skills help you collaborate effectively and adapt to workplace environments. These skills and qualities are essential for contributing to technical projects, absorbing industry practices, and maximizing learning during the internship.

What types of projects and tasks can an Intern Computer expect to work on during their internship?

As an Intern Computer, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks such as assisting with software development, troubleshooting hardware or software issues, performing quality assurance testing, and supporting IT infrastructure projects. You'll likely collaborate closely with experienced engineers, IT professionals, and other interns, providing you with valuable exposure to real-world challenges and workflows. This hands-on experience will help you build technical skills, understand best practices, and develop a professional network, all of which are beneficial for your future career advancement.

Technical Intern
Summary
Title: Technical Intern ID: 1003 Department: Information Technology Location: Baton Rouge
Description
TITLE: Intern in Technical Services (Baton Rouge)
JOB DESCRIPTION: Turn Key Solutions, LLC (www.TKS.LA) is a Managed Service Provider (MSP) that manages networks, phone systems & vendors for our regional business clients.  Are you going to school for a career in Information Technology, Sales & Marketing, or Business?    Would you like to earn credits and get real-world experience while part of a fast-paced, results-oriented I.T. consulting firm?   Are you ready to bring your "A Game" to a team of professionals who are looking for their next superstar protege?
As an Intern at Turn Key Solutions, you won't be asked to make coffee, but you will get to do pretty much everything else that our technicians, engineers, sales team, and customer service reps do on a day-to-day basis.     You'll get experience interacting with clients, working on high-end technical environments, basic computer work, and everything we do here.     If your interests are more in marketing or business, you'll get an opportunity to work on marketing campaigns, talk with prospects and existing customers, and learn from our sales & marketing team.   Either way,  you'll be working closely with clients and your team on lots of real projects, at many different stages of the projects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  We work hard while we're at work, but we do everything possible to get everyone home on time.   Full-time salary staff typically work 40 hr work weeks.   Our intern positions are typically very flexible - we know you've got classes and a crazy schedule.   We'll work with you!
You'll work closely with a team of I.T. pro's who are skilled at what they do.    They'll have a lot to offer you, but they will count on you to raise everyone's game to a new level.    Reliability, good teamwork & communication is huge to us, and we will do whatever it takes to help you feel comfortable, productive, and valued here.
Our office conditions are great - our tech staff enjoy their own work area with a pc, a company laptop for field work, all the coffee they can drink, and the support and respect of their goal-oriented coworkers.

COMPENSATION: Hourly pay is available for some intern positions, but not all.    This will depend on your qualifications, the specific intern position available at the time, and other factors.

COURSE CREDITS: Depends on your school, class, and conditions outside of our control.    We work with most schools, and are familiar with the typical process and requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES (i.e. these are not optional):

  • Strong proficiency with using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current enrollment in IT or business classes, or completed program degree.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES (i.e. not all are required, but the more you have the better):

  • Employment history with technical or office related duties.
  • Proficiency with basic network and computer terminology, on par with CompTIAA A+ or Network +
  • I.T. certifications from CompTIAA or Microsoft are awesome, if you have them!

Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move common computers and peripherals.
  • Reliable, insured transportation.

HOURS:  Part time or full time, we can usually work around your academic schedule.

BENEFITS:
Technical and professional training courses.

  • Constant on-the-job opportunities to learn new hardware, software, and best practices.
  • A team that wants to see you succeed and grow in your career, and provides you with the tools to do it.

Additionally, our full time employees have a comprehensive benefits package.
NOTE: We are not reviewing applications for the intern position at this time.
