Position Overview: 

Our Communications team is looking for an intern who's passionate about connecting and inspiring people. This team member will develop content and channel strategies to engage BWXT employees throughout North America. They will collaborate extensively with team members across human resources, information technology, operations, and other functions to drive culture change and accelerate priority projects across the company. This is a full-time internship during the summer term.

Your Day to Day as a Communications Intern

  • Supports the Brand and Marketing team across a range of marketing and/or employee communications initiatives, with specific assignments determined based on business needs and the intern's interests and capabilities.

  • Researches, drafts, edits, and develops content for internal or external audiences.

  • Conducts interviews with employees, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders to develop stories and communications.

  • Assists in identifying and developing compelling stories that help communicate BWXT's people, capabilities, culture, and business.

  • Develops basic visual or supporting content to help bring communications and storytelling concepts to life, working with the creative team as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with members of the Brand and Marketing team and other internal stakeholders on ongoing projects and communications.

  • Provides general content development, research, and project support as needed.

  • Owns a small number of defined projects from concept through completion, providing meaningful end-to-end experience and tangible work products.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field, 
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and adapt content for different audiences.
  • Interest or experience in interviewing, storytelling, and content development.
  • Ability to translate ideas and information into engaging, audience-focused stories and communications.
  • Basic visual/content-creation capabilities sufficient to develop simple supporting materials or communicate creative ideas; formal graphic design expertise is not required, as the intern will have access to BWXT's full-service creative team.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate study.

 Pay: $19.57 - $28.84

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $19.57  and $28.84  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
