Internship Overview:
The Duke Energy Information Technology Summer Internship Program is designed for currently enrolled college students looking to bring their passion, skills, knowledge, and innovative mindset to the energy sector. IT Interns will gain on-the-job experience and exposure to areas such as, software engineering, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and cloud engineering. Ideal candidates should be highly motivated and have the curiosity to take on new complex challenges while contributing directly to team goals along with honing their own skills for future technical and professional endeavors. Throughout the summer internship, students will learn more about the Enterprise Technology and Security department, as well as the broader company's business operations, by attending various site visits, information sessions and networking events with senior leadership and peers.
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled and pursuing bachelor's or master's degree in an IT or Engineering related major, such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2026

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous internship experience
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Knowledge of programming languages, operating systems and computer networks
  • Familiarity with Angular (or other JavaScript based framework), Java, Python and private and/or public cloud (Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Azure, AWS, etc.) environments
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows, Active Directory, Infrastructure as Code, Networking, Data Center Infrastructure
  • Familiarity with relational databases and query authoring (SQL)
  • Familiarity with the Agile Methodology
  • Exhibits a willingness to learn and growth mindset

Working Conditions:
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.
  • Housing stipend available when applicable
  • Many of our opportunities require a 40-hour work week.
  • Internship summer session length is 10-12 weeks
