JOB TITLE: Intern JOB GRADE: NE
FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt DEPARTMENT NAME: General Opera / Admin
DEPARTMENT CODE: GENADM REPORTS TO: Training Mgr. / Assigned Mgr.
I. POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Intern is responsible for assisting with task driven activities on special projects, process improvements, etc. Member may work in the areas of Engineering, Maintenance, and Computer Sciences.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
  • Under the guidance of a mentor, uses technical knowledge and partnering skills to develop and implement improvements to various processes, systems, machinery.
  • Partners with Maintenance, Information Technology, Engineering and Operations, Training, personnel to implement project steps, as directed.
  • Develops personal and professional skills through interaction and engagement with a variety of employees in a world-class manufacturing business
  • Inputs data into existing databases to track project status
  • Follows all EHSMS (Environmental Health and Safety Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Required Education and/or Experience
  • Actively seeking post-secondary degree. Student actively working toward a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Maintenance, or other technical discipline.
  • Student in good standing.

2. Required Communication Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret work-related instructions and policies ranging from simple and straightforward to more complex and detailed.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts, ideas, information and messages which may contain technical material in a logical, organized, coherent and persuasive manner; this includes emails, directions, manuals, reports, graphs, flow charts, etc.
  • Ability to successfully receive, interpret, understand and respond to verbal messages and other cues; to speak clearly and confidently using proper grammar, tone and pace. Willing to ask questions of experienced employees and to learn from them.

3. Required Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent; capacity to draw and interpret charts and graphs.

4. Required Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply reasonable understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use logic, reasoning and analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to a problem.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, compare and interpret information and to understand the underlying relationship among facts and connections between issues.

5.Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Database knowledge, Minitab and/or CAD experience is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of business processes.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain college authorization, if required.

  • The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places; limited exposure to airborne particles and occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • The exposure to noise levels in the work environment will range from moderate to loud.

VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE
  • Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property.
  • The employee will work in multiple areas and will abide by any safety requirements; hearing protection, eye protection, and/or respirators may be required in designated areas or under prescribed work conditions.
