Surveying Intern | Charlotte, NC

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring a Surveying Intern in Charlotte, NC to support engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs.

Over 10-12 weeks, this role offers hands-on experience while you learn the Civil Engineering trade alongside experienced engineers and consultants.

You will also support work that stays within project budgets and collaborates across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations.

The team supports survey, land development, and civil engineering work, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with project design activities related to discipline systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards
  • Research commercially available equipment and resources
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files
  • Coordinate design and scheduling activities with other disciplines, clerical staff, equipment suppliers, and project partners
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check
  • Assist with the preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement
What You'll Bring
  • Required Education: Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Required Experience: None required
  • Required Skills/Abilities: May be required to assist with field duties like surveying and materials testing; Strong interest in design consulting; Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Preferred: Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
