Your primary focus will be on ensuring the reliability, scalability, security and performance of our company data.

About Jewelers Mutual
Jewelers Mutual Group has been protecting the jewelry industry for over 112 years, and we’re now pairing that deep domain expertise with a ground-up technology transformation. Our engineering team in Raleigh is building a serverless, event-driven platform on AWS, a modern data stack on Databricks, and an enterprise AI capability designed to change how insurance works. This is Silicon Valley energy inside a company that’s been earning trust since 1913.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the investigation of outages and perform after-action reviews to find root cause and prevent recurrence to maximize uptime.
  • Define and document Database Administration Team standards and tools with an emphasis on full automation, observability and high availability.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure and product teams to ensure seamless integration of applications and infrastructure.
  • Champion operational excellence and continuous improvement across your team and the entire technology organization.

Design and Scale Cloud Platform Infrastructure:

  • Lead the architecture, implementation, optimization and maintenance of all database platforms across multiple cloud platforms and environments.

Infrastructure as Code and Cloud Management:

  • Manage the development and implementation of observability frameworks providing real-time insights into system health and performance.
  • Develops and maintains operational metrics that promote transparency and demonstrate continuous improvement.
  • Lead the creation of actionable alerts and dashboards, empowering teams to monitor services effectively and respond proactively to issues.

Chaos Engineering and Disaster Recovery

  • Design and execute failure scenarios, ensuring databases can handle unexpected events and recover with minimal downtime.
  • Ensure the database administration team participates in annual disaster recovery tests to ensure critical systems can be recovered within the specified recovery time and recovery point objectives.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience with serverless architecture and security practices.

Bonus Points For:

  • Scaling large cloud application databases across regions.
  • Knowledge of security testing, access control, and data protection in cloud environments.
  • Experience with chaos engineering to test and improve system resilience and incident response.

  • Hybrid work arrangements.

  • A collaborative and supportive team culture where contributions matter, and continuous learning is encouraged.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits, including healthcare, 401(k) matching, and generous paid time off.
