As part of your internship you will be exposed to the whole design/build construction process from bid development to project execution. From your co-op, you will gain experiences with:

  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and geotechnical reports.
  • Preparing budgets and proposals under supervision of our estimating team.
  • Developing project submittals and managing the submittal process.
  • Performing onsite QA/QC work during project execution.
  • Communicating with the operations and design teams for any necessary production and necessary quality coordination.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, estimating, and operations teams with on-going ground improvement projects, as needed. This may require travel or time spent in the field on active projects.
  • Review and interpret civil, structural and geotechnical documents and project production files.
  • Perform quality control tasks, documentation, submittal preparation, data analysis and site surveys as directed.
  • Support the sales team by composing pre-bid evaluations, estimates and proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Be an active participant in Menard’s safety culture. Have an active eye for recognizing any potential hazards and a willingness to stop unsafe work practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with basic geotechnical design and calculation principles.
  • Strong observation skills and ability to work with diligence.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, geology, construction management or related field. Prior experience with geotechnical construction and techniques a plus (i.e. drawings, specifications, building materials, surveying, design, or geotechnical work).
