Job description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Energy Sales Director to lead and mentor a team of Energy Advisors. The Energy Sales Director will play a critical role in guiding the team as they help businesses navigate complex energy challenges, including market volatility, carbon reduction targets, and energy reliability. This is a hands-on leadership role where your experience in retail commercial energy will be essential to the success of your team. You’ll also play an important part in growing the team itself; partnering with talent acquisition to identify, hire, and develop top sales talent who align with 5’s mission and culture.

At 5, we believe that a strong culture is the foundation of success. Our team thrives on collaboration, respect, and a commitment to integrity and excellence. We don’t compete with others- we compete with what’s possible. As Energy Sales Director, you’ll play a key role in creating a positive and inclusive environment where Energy Advisors feel supported, motivated, and empowered to push boundaries and achieve their best.

What you'll do:
  • Strategic Leadership: Serve as a key resource for the Energy Advisors, providing strategic insight, guidance, and support to help them navigate complex sales cycles and energy challenges.
  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and support the Energy Advisors to drive sales performance and ensure continuous professional development.
  • Sales Strategy: Develop and implement sales strategies in collaboration with the team to align with business objectives, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet sales targets.
  • Performance Management: Track, evaluate, and improve sales performance using CRM tools like HubSpot. Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to help the team meet and exceed targets.
  • Client Relations: Act as an escalation point for complex client interactions and participate in key client calls. You’ll work closely with the Energy Advisors to help them prepare for client meetings, providing strategic guidance and ensuring they are equipped to address client needs effectively. Assist in closing sales and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Internal Reporting: Prepare and present regular performance reports to the internal team, providing insights into sales progress, team achievements, and areas for improvement.
  • Market Expertise: Stay current with industry trends, competitive landscapes, and new products to ensure that the team can offer cutting-edge energy management solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, marketing, and product development, to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Culture Building: Promote a positive, team-oriented culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and mutual respect. Lead by example to ensure that the values and principles of 5’s culture are ingrained in the team’s everyday activities.
What you'll bring:
  • Commercial Retail Energy Experience: 7+ years of experience in retail commercial energy (procurement of electricity or natural gas) is required.
  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years of experience managing a B2B sales team, preferably in the energy sector, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Energy Market Expertise: Experience working within energy markets such as NYISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, or similar, with a solid understanding of market dynamics and regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to provide actionable insights and strategies to improve team performance and adapt to evolving market conditions.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Capable of conveying complex energy solutions in a clear, concise manner and effectively managing internal and external relationships.
  • CRM Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CRM systems (HubSpot preferred) to monitor team activities and optimize sales processes.
  • Passion for Energy Solutions: Enthusiasm for energy innovation, sustainability, and helping businesses manage their energy strategies in an ever-changing environment.
  • Team Growth: Partner with Talent Acquisition to find, hire, onboard, and offboard great people who align with 5’s culture and contribute to a high-performing team.
  • Culture Champion: Demonstrated experience in fostering a collaborative, positive team culture that values integrity, respect, and inclusivity.
