Job description

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

National Housing Trust (NHT) has been dedicated to creating and preserving affordable housing for 40 years. We build, preserve, and finance affordable housing and use that expertise to inform and advance resident-focused solutions.


NHT has a staff of 60+ across five program areas: Policy, Lending, Real Estate Development, Community Outreach and Impact (COI), and Energy Solutions. Our hallmark is our cross-functional, integrated approach to innovating, demonstrating, and amplifying solutions to the affordable housing crisis in the U.S.


Our COI team is dedicated to resident success. We believe that all people deserve affordable housing and that integrated, onsite services provide accessible support to our residents.


POSITION

The COI Intern reports to the COI Operations Manager and is based at the Hazel Hill Apartments, located at 100 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg, VA. The intern supports resident services by assisting with the coordination of programs and events for residents of all ages. This role provides hands on experience in nonprofit operations, community based programming, and resident services management.


This is a temporary, part time position with no remote work option. The role requires approximately 10 hours per week through December 2026.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support relationships with onsite and external service providers
  • Assist in coordinating resident programs for all ages based on community interests and needs
  • Help supervise and support volunteers during programs and events
  • Assist with collecting and organizing resident survey data to identify community needs
  • Participate in regular check-ins and meetings with COI Operations Manager
  • Help connect residents to local resources (rental assistance, food access, workforce training, tutoring, etc.)
  • Collaborate with staff and residents to help plan resident meetings and community events
