Job description

Overview
To provide safe and properly functioning clinical equipment systems and electronic instrumentation in a cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities
  1. Develops policies and procedures related to the use, management, and support of biomedical equipment.
  2. Helps design, implement, and maintain safe and properly functioning Clinical Equipment.
  3. Installation, inventory, inspection and repair of Clinical/Biomedical equipment systems and electronic equipment.
  4. Serves as a resource for biomedical technicians and users.
  5. Serves as training resource and mentors new employees.
  6. Attend training and seminars as required.
  7. Maintain proficiency in operation and repair of assigned equipment.
  8. Make presentations at shop meetings.
  9. Performs in-services as requested.
  10. Participates in on-call coverage.
  11. Process equipment recall and alerts according to assignments.
  12. Maintains equipment records.
  13. Uses Team approach to management of clinical equipment systems and other electronic equipment systems.
  14. Uses critical thinking skills to inspect, trouble-shoot and repair clinical equipment systems and electronic equipment.
  15. Completes work orders and documents completion of work orders and outcomes.
  16. Assists with cross training of other employees of equipment safety, operation, repair and usage.
  17. May cross train to work in other areas of Clinical Engineering.
  18. Coordinates project onset, implementation and debriefing for ongoing process improvements.

  • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
  • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree in Biomedical, IT Technology, or Electronics preferred. And 2 years of experience in the repair of biomedical equipment relevant to primary assignment or equivalent experience. Demonstrated proficiency on 2 Specialty Clinical Modalities. Demonstrated ability to understand and incorporate technical skills to a detailed level in clinical equipment systems including clinical applications, chemical and physical processes, electronics and mechanics, and regulatory requirements. Must be able to operate electronic devices DMM's, safety analyzers and patient simulators. Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable as defined by DCH's insurer. Such standard is subject to time. Cooperates with the insurance underwriting process. Must be able to function well in a patient care environment, interacting with healthcare staff, patients, and visitors. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
