Auto Body Painter / Estimator

Reports To: Shop Manager | Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled, versatile Auto Body Painter / Estimator to bridge front-end customer service and back-end production. You will be responsible for evaluating vehicle damage, writing accurate repair estimates, and executing flawless, OEM-quality paint finishes.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating (30-40% of role)

  • Assess & Document: Evaluate collision damage, take photos, and determine required parts, labor, and materials.

  • Write Estimates: Write accurate cost breakdowns using industry software (CCC ONE, Mitchell, or Audatex).

  • Insurance & Customers: Act as the main point of contact for insurance adjusters to approve supplements, and update customers on their vehicle's repair status.

Painting & Refinishing (60-70% of role)

  • Prep Work: Mask, sand, block, and prime repaired body panels for a defect-free surface.

  • Color Matching: Use spectrophotometers and mixing software to accurately match and blend factory colors.

  • Application: Spray basecoats, mid-coats, and clearcoats using HVLP guns in a downdraft booth.

  • Finish & Maintenance: Wet sand, buff, and polish out defects; maintain spray guns, booth filters, and mixing equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional auto painting; 1+ years writing collision estimates.

  • Tech Skills: Proficiency with CCC ONE, Mitchell, or Audatex; strong computer and math literacy.

  • Certifications: I-CAR or ASE (B2–B6) certifications are highly preferred.

  • Physical: Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and comfortably wear a respirator.
